  1. It's not always just the Linux box you're protecting... AV on servers is rarely protecting the server itself. And Linux desktop users tend to share files with Windows users, which if undetected as being a virus, could infect a Windows box elsewhere. It's short sighted to also assume an antivirus is only protecting the box it's installed on, and that real time scanning is the only reason people install an AV.
