  1. We are getting alerts when some Microsoft Excel files are opened. We understand there's a setting in Malwarebytes that will stop the alerts from happening. However, we don't want to turn off intended protections until we can have confidence that the alerts we receive are false positives. Otherwise, we'd be disabling an important protection. What causes these alerts to appear really?
  2. Background: I usually buy 10 licenses at a time. These, of course, use the same Key. I use these for me, my family and friends computers. Then, to avoid confusion, I always set the Keys/accounts so that they don't automatically renew. I have no intent to continue to pay for all family and friends after the first install! But, this is a good way to introduce them to Malwarebytes. When the key they are using expires, I figure they can buy a new one or get me to help them. At least I do try to keep track of "which computers have which keys?". Yesterday, I went to check my account on Malwarebytes' site and out of 3 or 4 keys, I only have one registered! These are keys that I purchased! I learned that two of the missing ones had been assigned to one of my family and friends. ??? Now I have to figure out how to get the account registration fixed if I'm to keep track of things AND to assure that I'm not going to be charged for renewals. It would be helpful to know how this may have happened. I see that the key used by this friend just expired this month. I see that other users are now registered with that same account. How to fix?
  3. It appears it was a firewall in need of a reboot......
  4. I have a number of computers, all on the same network, that won't update. I suspect that there's a DNS issue but so far can't pin it down. Well, DNS works but it seems slow. Changing DNS servers doesn't seem to help all that much. Any suggestions?
  5. Problem solved. It seems that a facility firewall reboot was needed. Just a guess but it did the trick. Thank you very much for the help!!
  6. Did that download and install and reboot on all 3 computers as instructed. Here are the results: sB_168 Unable to contact license server after pasting license into it..so still free version. Updates showing green checkmark. LB_155 Licensed. But, check for updates when started, runs, then ends and continues to report Check for Updates with Scan Status Updates showing a yellow exclamation point. And, clicking on My Account gets Unable to contact license server. LB_136 Licensed. But, check for updates when started, runs, then ends and continues to report Check for Updates with Scan Status Updates showing a yellow exclamation point. 7. Here are the files from the 3 computers.... mb-check-results LB_155.zip mb-check-results_SB_168.zip mb-check-results_LB_136.zip
  8. I have a few computers on which updates have started failing. All are Windows 10 Pro 1703 or 1709. On two of these, used MB-Clean, downloaded and installed again. But THOSE say they can't reach the license server - so remain in the free mode. Nothing special has been done to these computers and other computers remain working fine re: Malwarebytes Pro.
  9. I was checking a number of computers for Windows updates, Malwarebytes status, etc. I found 28% of the computers with Malwarebytes uninstalled more or less. The Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware Folder had but one folder and no files within it. That folder was LKG(?) and had only mbae.dll within it. What's going on???
  10. I reinstalled Malwarebytes on the Windows 8 system and now both programs appear to be working together again. strange ..... Still a worry re: my customers.....
  11. I know that's what we normally see. The whole point of my post was to say, clearly I hope, that IT DID NOT!! It said exactly what I described. It turns out that a reboot fixed the problem. But it was sure strange! Thanks for the replies.
  12. I couldn't say initially that this is related to Malwarebytes 3.06.1469 update package 1.0.1419 BUT it seemed suspicious. See below. This is important because I use it on my customer's systems!!! Today, on a Windows 7 Pro system, I found Windows Defender not running. I've used Malwarebytes alongside Windows Defender VERY successfully on MANY computers for years. So, my expectation is that 3.0 will continue to cooperate (as advertised). The Windows Defender service was not running and was set to Manual. It would not turn on. I could set it to Automatic though. A reboot fixed the problem ... for now. Then I checked a Windows 8 system and almost the same thing. Except now Windows Defender service is set on Manual and CANNOT be changed (grayed out). A reboot of this system did nothing. It remains as described. On this system, using the Malwarebytes cleaner to remove Malwarebytes immediately caused Windows Defender to start up. Imagine that..... We need to be told the truth about interoperability in a timely fashion. Too many other systems rely on our being well-informed and skillful. I just purchased another 10 licenses. I wonder if that was a mistake?
  13. I just installed 3.06 in a Wndows 7 system. It appears to be working except: When I right click on the system tray icon, there is NO selection to Open Malwarebytes! Only to hide or exit.... This is a trial version so far but that should do this should it? What's to be done? Thanks
  14. Sorry, I got sidetracked. The system appears to be clean. I believe the issue is this: Since this is an AMD 32 machine, the latest Malwarebytes mbam-setup-2.1.8.1057 is incompatible with it. I installed Malwarebytes mbam-setup-majorgeeks-2.0.4.1028 and it runs fine! This incompatibility should be common knowledge in the Malwarebytes community. It appears that the latest version of RogueKiller has the same problem while most other programs don't have a problem. Maybe they're just older. Google Chrome will not install on this machine and the installer says the hardware doesn't meet the requirements.
  15. Here is the ESET log. I think I've completed everything you asked for at this point..... Also a new FRST log. eset_scan_results.txt FRST.txt
  16. I got a bit ahead of myself. Sorry about that! I ran Farbar with the fix you provided. Now I'll proceed with the rest... Be right back.
  17. Thank you! I'm sorry that I didn't give you more information. I had thought that the logs I sent had important information in them that would rather directly target our next step. That's the impression I was given. So, here is more information: The main problem I'm seeing is that Malwarebytes will not run. Nor will RogueKiller run. They both terminate immediately with an error. And, they have been identified as "anti~mal~ware tool" in some of those termination errors - which makes it look like some of their information has been edited. I have already run the suggested scans and provided the logs. Things *have* changed as I've been working on this. So I will run them again and post the results and await your reply. I have already run: - ESET online scan - HitManPro - ComboFix - Malwarebytes ()unsuccessfully as above) - RogueKiller (unsuccessfully as above) -Sup[erAntiSpyhware. I have attached the file generated by a RogueKilller termination if that helps. Malwarebytes terminates differently with a oxc000001d error "The app failed to initialize properly". New logs to come... 719c_appcompat.txt
  18. Malwarebytes and RogueKiller won't run.. generate an immediate error. Windows XP Home AMD 32 Panda Security 2013 The requested logs are attached. I have run just about all the cleanup tools with no improvement and few interesting detections. Thank you! CheckResults.txt FRST.txt Addition.txt
