  1. I had a bad virus/malware (antispyware 2010) thingy, I used malwarebytes, spydoctor and others, eventually the virus was gone (i thought). I could no longer connect to my wireless. I assumed something was deleted maybe a driver etrc. So, I decided to do a fix/upgrade XP install. My laptop came with the OS installed so I got a burned XP pro disk and tried to do the update install. It only got so far and now it is stuck with 39 minutes left. The messages I am getting are first to insert the xp pro service pack 2 cd. I went online burned the files to disk and when inserted it works and then says that NT5Info.cat file is missing. There is no file in the i386 folder with that name there are 2 that are NT5Info.ca_ and 1 that is NT5.ca. I even tried changing the name of the files to .cat at the end (i read that in another forum),all to no avail. I even got the service pack from another source and it had the same files.Anyway my laptop is stuck, I have restarted and it always gets to the same error messages. I have a new desktop that I am writing u on, but I love my laptop and need it for college. What can i do? Your help would be greatly appreciated. David
  2. I had this virus, the symptoms were a red circle with a white x in the right hand corner of the system's tray that would show a pop up saying "Your computer is infected with a virus!"etc. Then it downloaded this antispyware 2010 crap all on its own without my prompting. I ran malwarebytes and the thing came back, then i ran spyware doctor. The icon and the pop up have gone but now i cannot connect to tghe internet. The icon down in the lower right says i'm connected to my wireless with excellent strength, but when I try to open firefox or IE it says server not found. I also ran winsockxpfix which was a solution I read on another forum and I was able to conect , but the virus returned. So I redid the malwarebytes and spyware doctor and i'm back to being unable to connect. Please respond with explicit instructions and in layman's terms (i'm no techy). Thanks so much for any help you have to offer. Here is a fresh HJT log.
