  1. The Malwarebytes Support Tool only runs if MBAM is installed and running, right?
  2. As usual, the bot is useless, given that I have no MBAM running. Never mind, I found 3.83 on Bleeping Computer. Luckily it hasn't changed over to 4.0 yet.
  3. I uninstalled 3.x MBAM and installed 4.0, only to have it fail with one of those messages that tells you nothing. Where can I find the last release of 3.x?
  4. I use F-Secure AV. When MBAM v.3 was first released, I tried it. Horrible, absolutely horrible. I ended up reinstalling W-7 because I could not uninstall v.3. So I ran MBAM v.2 until now. On a freshly installed W-8.1 PC, MBAM asked me if I wanted to upgrade to v.3. Big mistake. As soon as I did so, every time I logged in, I would see a dialog with "Unable to connect the service." I did some surfing and discovered that F-Secure needs to have compatibility mode turned on, something I won't do. And v.3's ransomware component is grayed-out, contrary to marketing. So I thought I'd uninstall MBAM and return to v.2. Not possible. MBAM refuses to uninstall itself, complaining about unins000.dat. I cannot delete the folder. I disabled the only Malwarebytes service I could find, but after a reboot nothing changed. I see no alternative except to reinstall the OS. I think I'm parting ways with Malwarebytes and upgrading to F-Secure Internet Security, but I will make one suggestion. Before asking to update itself, v.2 should first check to see if F-Secure is running, and if so, not ask. And v.3 should do the same check before installing itself. This would be easy to implement.
  5. I went into Services and disabled MBAM. I still could not uninstall it, but I could at least delete the folder. Now maybe I can wait a day or two before wiping and reinstalling.
  6. I saw the announcement. I uninstalled MBAM and rebooted. I installed 3.0. I tried to activate it using my lifetime ID/key, but after I entered the data, the button for Activate never became active. I tried to update, but nothing happened. I rebooted, but nothing changed. I tried to uninstall it, but it refused. I tried to delete the Malwarebytes folder, but I was told I did not have sufficient authority (I was logged in as admin). Every time I reboot and login, I see the message "Unable to connect the Service." I tried to use a restore point to go back in time a few days, but 3.0 has some files open which Windows cannot handle. 3.0 is like a horny, drunk armadillo. Now I will need to reinstall Windows. P.S. Do us all a favor and don't auto-update existing MBAM installations with 3.0 because it is the worst release you guys ever created.
  7. First, let me say that I don't believe my PC is infected. It has had F-Secure IS and MBAM Pro running since I built the system. Usually I have ActiveX Filtering set on IE11, but today I did not for some reason. A complete system scan turned up nothing. I was looking at the website thediplomat.com and started to see some messages from MBAM Pro. Here is the log entry: Detection, 2/6/2015 10:38:31 AM, SYSTEM, myPCname, Protection, Malicious Website Protection, IP, 208.43.117.244, data.rtbfy.com, 53071, Outbound, C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe, I searched but could not find much on rtbfy.com (lots of stuff on rtbf, but that's probably irrelevant). virustotal.com indicated that 208.43.117.244 is clean. I turned ActiveX Filtering back on and the messages stopped, so I will continue to use that. I would just like generic comments. F-Secure did not complain, so I think this is not malicious, just the usual intrusive data collection, besides, MBAM Pro blocked the access. Anyone know what rtbfy.com is? If MBAM Pro blocked it, there is clearly some history of it.
