It appears I have a brand new encrypted hard drive that I can't access. I'm not sure how we got this on my wife's computer but it has made a mess of things and for a unknown sum I can purchase the key to unlock my files.. I took it off the network last night but was transferring files between an external flash drive and our computers to try and get her PC running. It's it possible that the virus could now be on my flash drive and now my computer? Nothing appears to be encrypted but I pulled it off my network just in case. I setup a notebook and disabled the wireless and have been using it for transferring files from external drive to infected PC.. I really don't care if the notebook dies.. I can rebuild it but I need to try to recover my wife's computer if possible. Is it fixable or is it a total loss and our files are gone forever? I refuse to pay a hacker. My wife's computer got this virus over the weekend and I tried to kill it will no luck and now all documents, pictures, etc. are encrypted and a nice note from the thief comes up at startup asking us to go to a web site to pay to unlock..
