  1. I presume you are the same AstroSkipper whose MSFN post I linked to above. If Windows XP users do not like the term “diehards,” then I offer my apologies. I obviously thought your efforts were noteworthy enough to mention in this topic. Peace! 🙂
  2. My apologies for resurrecting this old topic, but I am NOT posting to seek personal assistance. (If I needed help, I would certainly start my own topic.) A couple of Windows XP diehards at the MSFN forum (their last stronghold) have recently reported that Malwarebytes 1.75 (now 10 years old) is still able to download definition updates in July 2023, and have posted some rather convincing screenshots: https://msfn.org/board/topic/184730-antimalware-firewall-and-other-security-programs-for-windows-xp-working-in-2023-and-hopefully-beyond/?do=findComment&comment=1248964 I have quoted exile360’s August 13, 2020 post above because I tend to agree with his opinion that current definitions cannot be expected to work effectively with a 10-year-old version of Malwarebytes, however I am not an expert on that myself.
  3. I have a hunch that the version you had before was actually 3.5.1, which still receives definitions signed with SHA-1 for the benefit of Windows XP diehards (but perhaps not for very much longer). I wouldn’t recommend it for Windows 11, but if that is the version you want, you can find a download link in this post: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/191650-malwarebytes-3-frequently-asked-questions/?do=findComment&comment=1243649
  4. Version 3.5.1 is still receiving definition updates at this time, but I wouldn’t purchase a Premium license for XP at this late date (unless you might want to use it later for Windows 7+) There is no “Free Premium” so maybe try Avast Free 18.8.
  5. Hi Imacri: If I understand you correctly, Norton is so great that it doesn't really matter if your OS hasn't been patched for more than 2 years and your browser hasn't been patched for nearly a year now? Good luck with that theory! Meanwhile, Microsoft has just admitted what some of us have long known: That Windows 6.0 patches are still applicable to Vista.
  6. How will you ever be "sure it's safe to do so"? The "problems" I have seen reported involve security software that no longer supports Vista (notably Avast 18.8) and VMware. Malwarebytes 3.5.1 is not affected, but I suppose your "maintenance mode" version of Norton Security might conceivably be affected. The number of Norton users who are still running Vista and have installed the latest Windows updates appears to be approximately zero, so the world may never know unless you take the plunge. Good luck!
  7. P.S. The one thing "Crystal Maze" managed to do was open the Publix website, so labeling it as adware would not be altogether inaccurate. Sorry to waste your time.
  8. Thanks, file is no longer flagged. I just tried to play that old Wild Tangent game, "Crystal Maze" (from HP factory image), got script error and appcrash - so I'll be uninstalling it anyway.
  9. No other program at VirusTotal detects it: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/96582cae86ebb87361ffb8a79c37f746f745d2f28eed849983747f6c96a78893/analysis/1453436230/ For that matter, Malwarebytes did not detect it until quite recently. 3C448D22-AD49-43EC-85C5-A6020A10E823-extr.zipAdware.SecurityTool.txt
  10. I have no real reason to doubt what you are saying, glad you took no offense. Maybe I'll post again if I have any problems with Malwarebytes (which I never have before). Was just checking to see if there were any issues with the latest update before I install it. Thanks!
  11. Pardon a newbie for barging in, but if you ask the same question at AVG Support Community you will get a different answer where Premium is concerned. They will tell you that you should never install two or more programs with real-time resident protection. Admittedly I have no personal experience with Premium. I've been running AVG Free and Malwarebytes Free together for several months with no problems whatsoever.
