  1. Cheers. Interestingly enough, when I originally downloaded Malware and tried to update it I recieved an error message 723,00 ?? or something like that, which may have been down to the virus. I am concerned that I have no idea what the virus was though so how to recognise it in future, although I now have Kaspersky 2010, Spy bot and Malware which keeps me occupied even with a clean system. Great site and thanks for all your help, will add your link to my homepage. Regards Steve
  2. Many Thanks for your assistance. Unfortunately, I was prompted to download Service Pack 2 during this time, which I duly did. However, the virus was still infecting my machine so it did not download properly so I was unable to start the laptop up as it asked me to reinstall windows.... Took the laptop to PC World this am who advised the only way to get it working again was to take it back to factory settings, which I have done. thankfully I had backed up my music and photos on an external hard drive. Thanks anyway, have reinstalled Malaware. Cheers
  3. Hi All, I am not very computer literate, just a basic user. I inadvertantly downloaded a virus yesterday that resulted in my whole screen going black with white skull and crossbones on it laughing at me. I then lost access to my system restore, control panel, internet explorer. I ran Norton 360 which detected nothing... need to get rid of that I think! I downloaded Malware and ran it in Safe Mode and I already had SpyBot so ran that as well and the hiJack programme. However, I am still having issues, I repeatedly have a pop up from the Interactive Services Dialogue Detection which states that Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library, Path C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe is not working correctly and I need to contact the application adminstrator. Although I can now access system restore and control panel, I have run System restore 3 times now and each time upon reboot it tells me that it was unsuccessful due to an unknown error. I have also managed to reconnect using IE - it had somehow installed a proxy server on port 80, so I deleted that and reverted to automatically detect settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
