Hi all, and thanks in advance. Searching through all the existing posts has helped me almost completely eliminate all traces of this nasty infection. THE SHORT: taskeng.exe keeps re-appearing in the processes list, and in the folder c:\docs and settings\administrator\applicaiton data. It can be ended, and deleted. Startup reg entry deleted. It is not being detected as malware. A note that I am running XP, and I have disable the task scheduler service, confirmed that "stop using task scheduler" is unavaible to select from the Scheduled Tasks menu. I have found that this might be a legit. service for scheduled tasks in Vista? I have done considerible searches on this, anyone have any advanced advice? THE LONG: I had some combination of root kit, .Agent, and backdoor.bot, (and I am sure many other) infection. Through the following tools and processess I have removed almost all traces of infection: Malewarebytes (THE best) Symantec AV Corp 10.2 Panda AV rootkit remover Sohphos rootkit tool Windows Ultimate boot disk (BartPE) Manual removal of files, registry entries, and one hidden Scheduled Task All scan tools above now come up clean. Keeps returning after reboot. Scan does not show it is a virus, but I always end the process, delete the file, delete the startup key. Searched the registry for the name (without extention), and deleted everything I found. The only other thing I can find is a reg entry I can't delete, says an error occured while deleting (or something like that), key looks empty, name is something with EOUL or similar (at work now, should have wrote it down).
