Please try the following to see if it helps: Windows XP: Click on Start and select Control Panel Open Add/Remove Programs Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Restart your computer very important Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here NOTE: If you get SHGetValue failed with error code 0, that only means that the tool has nothing to perform, continue on with the next step.... It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates. Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask me and I'll explain how to do it. Hello and If you had to run combofix and av scan and found a few things, it is possible that there is something still running in the background that could be preventing the successful install..... Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process: As we don't deal with malware removal in the General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum, you need to start a topic in the Malware Removal forum so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have. Here's a fix that exile360 made, it is universal for XP, Vista and Windows 7 and should fix the problem: Note: If using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you MUST right-click on the file and select "Run as administrator". In the Save dialogue box click on the drop down menu next to Save as type and select All Files Name the file Fix.bat (the .bat extension is very important) Save the file to your desktop and double click it to run it if using Windows XP. If using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you MUST right-click on the file and select Run as administrator otherwise it will not work. Once that's complete try running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again to see if it now works without error or not.

  7. Just to add, also give your mother board a visual check and see if you don't have any blown capacitors.... Click HERE to see what a blown one looks like. The capacitor is the one that looks like a miniature soda can....

Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows XP: Click Start and select My Computer Click the Tools item from the menu at the top of the window (if you don't see Tools press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will appear) Select Folder Options Click the View tab and make sure Show hidden files and folders is selected under Hidden files and folders Next, uncheck the box next to Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) Then, uncheck the box next to Hide extensions for known filetypes Click Apply then click OK Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and delete rules.ref. Once you've done that, start MBAM and when it shows the error and asks to update, let it do so and see if that corrects it.   10. I hope that they do not try and ship McCrappy with all pc's..... that would be the first thing I would un-install. On the bright side, maybe they could improve the product and come out with the best anti-virus software out there.... only time will tell...
  11. Just use one Anti-virus program like Avira (for example) Use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro with IP protection enabled and the scheduler set to update hourly and perform a quick scan once a day and you should be set.

  13. Add to Ignore List instructions: Quote from the FAQ section of [iNFO] IP Protection: The only way you can add an IP to the ignore list now is to trigger a block by MBAM (eg visiting the site).   16. Hello and You can clear out temp files first, this will reduce the time it takes to do a full scan. All that is needed really is a quick scan, it should catch most everything. Full Scans are only needed if you wanted to scan other drives or locations where malware usually never resides... Clear Temp Files Using ATF Cleaner: Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune from here and save the file to your desktop. Close all open internet browser windows Run ATF Cleaner by double clicking it. Once the program opens, click the box next to Select All Note: this will delete all cookies saved by sites that you have visited so if you need to keep any cookies for automatic logins etc then uncheck the Cookies option [*]Once that's all set click on the Empty Selected button and it will remove the temporary files from your system. [*]If you use Firefox or Opera browsers then click the appropriate button at the top of the program and delete the temp files from them as well following the same procedure. Once that's done you may delete ATF Cleaner then do the following: Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer. Close all open internet browser windows Double click on the ccsetup file to start the installation of the program. Select your language and click OK, then click Next. Read the license agreement and click I Agree. Click Next to use the default install location. Click Install then click Finish to complete installation. Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program. On the Windows tab, under Internet Explorer, uncheck Cookies if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit) If you use Firefox or any other Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for Cookies is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla. Click on the Options icon at the left side of the window, then click on Advanced. uncheck Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 24 hours. Click on the Cleaner icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program. Caution: It is not recommended that you use the Registry feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items for removal, which can cause issues with other programs. After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit. Thanks
  17. @ okieseeker Some things to note and ponder on..... 1. Your first line of defense is your anti-virus program. The fact that your anti-virus caught this infection is a good thing. 2. Malwarebytes is not an anti-virus software it is an anti-malware software 3. You have Avira and Norton 360 installed and both caught the infection. It is NOT a good idea to run two anti-virus software programs (actively) at the same time. It will cause problems. Malwarebytes performed as it was designed. Malwarebytes is your second line of defense to catch things that your anti-virus software fails to detect, (mainly cause the anti-virus software does not scan for malware). The definitions file for malwarebytes are not VIRUS definitions.

  20. If you have the pro version you can schedule the updates to happen maybe once a day, instead of hourly. At the moment lets say that the database file is 5MB in size. If it downloads say 5 updates per day and we say in one month of 30 days, that would be 5MB X 30 Days = 750MB. (of course I am assuming that Malwarebytes will update their database five times a day, which sometimes does happen). Reducing your update interval will help.

  22. Hello and I have not heard of any problems with Malwarebytes causing any blue screens..... What other security software do you have installed on this computer? Anti-Virus software? Firewall?
