  1. Not sure where you got that information, Malwarebytes has a lifetime license and updates therefore forever including product updates.
  2. Not all people are having the issue but there are plenty.... I am not sure it is isolated to only certain versions of windows. I know windows xp has problems with it.
  3. We are glad Malwarebytes has helped you eradicate this malicious software. If your current security solution let this infection through, you might please consider purchasing the FULL version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for additional protection.

  5. @ mmckay2302 You may want to print or write these directions as you will disconnect from the internet for a while - 1. Very important: First disconnect your computer from the internet. (Log Off) 2. Router Reset: Next you must reset the router to its default configuration. This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into a small hole labeled "reset" located on the back of the router. Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 10 seconds). 3. Reset the IP/DNS settings of your interent connection: Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Double click on Network Connections. Right click on your default connection (usually Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection) and select Properties. Select the General tab. Double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). ?Under General tab: Select "Obtain an IP address automatically". Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically". Click OK twice to save the settings. Reboot if you had to change any setting. 4. Flush the DNS cache: Click the Start logo in the bottom left corner of the screen Click on Run or press Windows Logo+R In the command window copy/paste the following (one at a time): ipconfig /flushdns netsh winsock reset Then hit enter. Exit the command window. 5. Reconnect: Once you have followed all the above steps you can reconnect your computer to the internet
  6. how about you supply us with some pics of where the CD is stuck at, Model of the laptop to start with...
  7. There is a known issue with Malwarebytes and AVG Antivirus 2011 that they are working on trying to figure out what is causing it, for now maybe you can either run MBAM manually and leave it disabled (which I would not recommend), or you can remove AVG and go back to Trend or a different Anti-virus software.
  8. Currently, the context menu scan in MBAM does not use standard heuristics at all. Unfortunately this does decrease the detection rate of that type of scan. Note that saving a sample on your desktop and running a Quick Scan will use heuristics, and will scan the sample, however this may not be desirable due to the fact that a Quick Scan often takes several minutes, and on a computer that is not well cared for (temp files not deleted and no defrags run recently) it can often take much longer.
  9. Hello and Have you tried submitting the file to VirusTotal to check it? Please provide following details, so that someone may be able to assist you: 1. OS version including 32/64-bit 2. Installed Security Product(s) including Firewall 3. MBAM version (current 1.46) 4. Definition version (current 4885) 5. Do you use a router to connect to Internet
  10. If your router is hijacked it's possible that this could be causing some of the issue. Try this - It is general solution that works most times - You may want to copy/paste this to notepad as you will disconnect from the Internet for a while - 1. Very important: First disconnect your computer from the Internet. Just Log Off- while you reset the router - 2. NOTE: To help prevent the router from getting hijacked again, make sure you change the default password to the router and also secure your wireless connection. 3. Reset the IP/DNS settings of your Internet connection: Download this Microsoft Item 4. Flush the DNS cache: Click the Start logo in the bottom left corner of the screen Click on Run or press Windows Logo+R In the command window copy/paste the following: ipconfig /flushdns netsh winsock reset Then hit enter and a black box will flash . Exit the command window. 5 Update: Try to update to the latest version Also get some anti-virus software installed Thank You -
  11. what may be happening is that your router may have been hijacked..... do you use a router?
  12. yes follow all the steps, and if the first two steps do not work, then you will have to seek help from the experts to isolate any chance that this is being caused by malware.
  13. Thanks for sharing..... this is why I NEVER do any apps on facebook..... and tell others not too....
  14. Here are some steps to diagnose update issues: Step 1 Click on this link and let me know what it says. It should be just a 4-digit number in the upper-left corner. Step 2 Please download and run the traceroute utility at this link. It will run a traceroute to our update servers to see if it can find the connection issue, and then it will write it to a log, and open that log in Notepad when it is done. Please either save the log as a Text File and then attach it to a reply, or copy and paste it into a reply, and I will forward it on to our server guy. Note that it may take several minutes to run, and it may look like it is not doing anything for a few minutes. Normally it takes longer when there are errors that it has to log, but it's rare for it to go more than 10 minutes. Step 3 Please download TCPView from Microsoft at this link. This utility will monitor everything that is accessing the Internet or your local network. All you have to do is run TCPView, and then run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and start the update. Watch TCPView to see if mbam.exe shows up in the list. It will be pretty obvious, because it highlights it in green. I need to know what "Remote Address" Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is trying to connect to. Once it shows up in the list, you can right-click on the line for mbam.exe, and select 'Copy' in order to paste it into a reply. It will tell me what I need to know. Below is an example of what the line you are looking for will look like inside the following code box: mbam.exe:3656 TCP vista-x64:52135 cdn-208-111-168-7.ord.llnw.net:http ESTABLISHED
  15. To be on the safe side I always put exceptions for MBAM on any anti-virus program that I install. You never know some day some av update can cause issues and if you already have the exceptions then you will not have to worry about it. Only takes a couple of minutes to put them there and well worth any issues later.
  16. Once you follow the instructions above and run a quick scan and remove any items it finds, reboot. If you still have issues then you will have to seek help from the experts..... If that is needed let us know and we can direct you to the right place for that.
  17. Yes you can run Malwarebytes with other Anti-Virus programs, provided you add exclusions in your Anti-Virus software of your choice. BTW Malwarebytes is not an Anti-Virus software, it is an Anti-Malware software. It is designed to work hand in hand with your anti-virus software catching things that your anti-virus software misses or can't detect. It is recommended that you run both an anti-virus software as well as an anti-malware program of your choice, together with a good firewall to be fully protected. Be advised that not all programs are 100% accurate. If you need help with exclusions let us know. Also be sure you only run ONE anti-virus program at a time.
  18. Its a nice idea, I think this has been suggested before..... I believe that this is the job of a firewall. Your firewall can monitor what apps are trying to access the internet, so you would have to look at the logs in your firewall. Malwarebytes is not a firewall therefore can not monitor what application is going to access the internet. Hope that makes sense.
  19. I have sent djm68 a PM asking him to change his password.... More than likely his hotmail account go hijacked and is being used. Changing the password will slow them down.
  20. As Long As This Is Not Due To An Infection.... This should help you with net access, if steps 1 and 2 don't help you get connected then follow the instructions below step 2.... Please try this first - STEP 01 Open Internet Explorer Note: It MUST be Internet Explorer, not Firefox, Opera, Chrome or any other internet browser Click on Tools at the top and select Internet Options Note: If you do not see Tools, press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will show up Click on the Connections tab Click on the LAN settings button Under Automatic configuration make sure that the box next to Automatically detect settings is checked, if it is not, then click the box next to it to check it Click on the OK button to close the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window Click on the OK button to close the Internet Options window Use this diagram as a guide Try updating Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again and if it does not work then please proceed to Step 02 STEP 02 Disable Internet Explorer Proxy Settings and Reset TCP/IP It is very important that these steps be carried out exactly as shown otherwise the fix will not work. If you have any questions please ask before moving on. Please start Notepad and using your mouse make sure you select and copy all the information below in the Code box into your new document. Then save the file as "fixme.bat" to your Desktop - The .bat extension is important In the drop down box for Save as type: make sure you select All Files (*.*) and keep the quotes on the name as well. Then close the new file. @ECHO OFF reg delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v ProxyServer /f reg delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v ProxyOverride /f reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v ProxyEnable /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v GlobalUserOffline /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt On Windows XP you can double-click the file to run it. On Vista/Win7 you need to Right click the file and choose Run as administrator to run it. With User Account Control on it should ask permission to run it. Click Yes This will flash a black DOS box very quickly and go away, this is normal. Restart your computer now. Launch Internet Explorer and see if you can connect to the Internet. Launch MBAM and check for Updates If you still have issues The instructions are listed below - Do as many as you can and post in the new forum area as listed - As we don't work on Malware removal or diagnostics in the general forums please follow these directions - Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post - Please allow at least 48 hours for a reply as the experts can get busy at times - Also add a brief note to the experts as to your problems - Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org Always use the ADD REPLY Tab at the bottom of the page when you reply - Thank You -
  21. Once you are clean, make sure to change your hotmail password as well.....
  22. I am glad it worked for you, if you have any other issues or questions don't hesitate to ask.
  23. it is possible that you could contact Acer and they may have some sort of bootable floppy that could re-flash the bios and it would clear the password. Also I don't know how comfortable you are with opening the laptop (at least the access panels) but you could look for: (this needs to be done carefully and with now power or battery in the laptop) Under where the memory is you may notice some little plugs. On one of my laptops, plugged in just under the wireless card were black and red wires. I followed those wires for like 2 inches and tucked away in the dark was something that looked like a CMOS battery. I unplugged that, waited like a minute cause I was inspecting it, plugged it back in. I turned the computer back on and Viola no password! I was still in business. Hope that helps!
