  1. This is a nice idea, but some software that calls home, if you disable that, the software fails to work because it can not call home. Another thing that comes to mind, some folks like to figure out what software calls home because they are running hacked versions and would like to know how to stop that so their software does not get deactivated. Its kind of like a double edge sword. I like the idea though.... be advised these are just my thoughts and does not reflect the thoughts of Malwarebytes....
  2. yes it should work fine, on some computers you have to enter exclusions for Malwarebytes files in the Anti-virus software, but I know there are folks here that run it without issues. If you have issues come back and we can help you with it.
  3. Hi, and Welcome to Malwarebytes! Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process: As we don't deal with malware removal in the General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum, you need to start a topic in the Malware Removal forum so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have. Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. After posting your new post, make sure under options, you select Track this topic and choose Immediate Email Notification, so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post. One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. Please refrain from making any further changes to your computer (Install/Uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc...) unless advised by a malware removal helper. Doing so can result in system changes which may hinder the attempts by a helper to clean your machine. NOTE: Please DO NOT post back to (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours. Replying to your own posts changes the post count and helpers are looking for topics with zero replies. If you reply to your own post helpers may think that you're already being helped and thus overlook your post. If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply to the topic, asking for help again. Or You may send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance. Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org or here. Please be patient, someone will assist you as soon as it is possible. PS: Please use the "ADDREPLY" button instead of other ones when you start replying.
  4. I use GetData Back or BadCopy Pro for doing that.
  5. thats great news, you may want to check your link, as I clicked on it to read more about it, and it did not work? This link should work.... (just click on the picture....
  6. DarlinAnglegirl glad you got it fixed, did you get your router reset too and get it back installed and tested?
  7. Glad you got it going, if you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.
  8. The fix.bat file just checked your computer to see it the Startup folders existed and if not it recreated the folders. Somehow, either by you or something else the Startup folders were removed from your computer. This causes errors with some programs so its best to leave that folder there.
  9. John A, it wont hurt one way or the other....
  10. What model number of router do you have? did you reset it back to factory settings?
  11. See Section I HERE for exclusions in MSE.
  12. You could also try resetting your router back to factory default and try again.... if both those did not work, then there could be something else lurking in your system that may require the experts to look over your logs.... 13. If you have not had any issues in the last couple of years it should be ok.
  14. Are you using the same versions of software and os, browsers, av etc?
  15. Lets try this.... if only once computer is doing it, then perhaps its an issue only on this computer and not the router but we will see. Your router and it's settings have been upset or hijacked. This will fix the problem. Please read carefully. We can release your IP address settings, flush the DNS resolver cache, then renew you IP address settings. It will be easier and less error prone, if we create a batch file to do this... please follow these steps: Copy/paste all text in the code box (below)...to Notepad. (Do not use a Word Processor or WordPad). @echo off ipconfig /release ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /renew del %0 Save type as "All Files" Save the Notepad file on your desktop...as DNSreset.bat.. Note : The .bat extension is very important Double click on DNSreset.bat to run it. Vista-Win7 users: Right click on DNSreset.bat, select "Run As Administrator" to run it. A black CMD window will flash, then disappear...this is normal. The batch file will be deleted when finished. The IP address settings should be released and renewed and the DNS cache flushed. Thank You -
  16. You may want to print or write these directions as you will disconnect from the internet for a while - 1. Very important: First disconnect your computer from the internet. (Log Off) 2. Router Reset: Next you must reset the router to its default configuration. This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into a small hole labeled "reset" located on the back of the router. Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 10 seconds). 3. Reset the IP/DNS settings of your interent connection: Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Double click on Network Connections. Right click on your default connection (usually Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection) and select Properties. Select the General tab. Double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). ?Under General tab: Select "Obtain an IP address automatically". Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically". Click OK twice to save the settings. Reboot if you had to change any setting. 4. Flush the DNS cache: Click the Start logo in the bottom left corner of the screen Click on Run or press Windows Logo+R In the command window copy/paste the following (one at a time): ipconfig /flushdns netsh winsock reset Then hit enter. Exit the command window. 5. Reconnect: Once you have followed all the above steps you can reconnect your computer to the internet
  17. Please provide following details, so that someone may be able to assist you: 1. OS version including 32/64-bit 2. Installed Security Product(s) including Firewall 3. MBAM version (current 1.46) 4. Definition version (current 44966) 5. Do you use a router to connect to Internet One of the biggest problems I see so far is you only have 448 MB ram, that is really low for windows XP.

  20. It looks like you are using a router to connect to the internet, is that true? Please provide following details, so that someone may be able to assist you: 1. OS version including 32/64-bit 2. Installed Security Product(s) including Firewall 3. MBAM version (current 1.46) 4. Definition version (current 4966) 5. Do you use a router to connect to Internet
  21. DarlinAnglegirl I see you posted your own topic now, just follow Your Own Topic you created only and we will help you there.
  22. Here are some steps to diagnose update issues: (Also are you using a router?) Step 1 Click on this link and let me know what it says. It should be just a 4-digit number in the upper-left corner. Step 2 Please download and run the traceroute utility at this link. It will run a traceroute to our update servers to see if it can find the connection issue, and then it will write it to a log, and open that log in Notepad when it is done. Please either save the log as a Text File and then attach it to a reply, or copy and paste it into a reply, and I will forward it on to our server guy. Note that it may take several minutes to run, and it may look like it is not doing anything for a few minutes. Normally it takes longer when there are errors that it has to log, but it's rare for it to go more than 10 minutes. Step 3 Please download TCPView from Microsoft at this link. This utility will monitor everything that is accessing the Internet or your local network. All you have to do is run TCPView, and then run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and start the update. Watch TCPView to see if mbam.exe shows up in the list. It will be pretty obvious, because it highlights it in green. I need to know what "Remote Address" Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is trying to connect to. Once it shows up in the list, you can right-click on the line for mbam.exe, and select 'Copy' in order to paste it into a reply. It will tell me what I need to know. Below is an example of what the line you are looking for will look like inside the following code box: mbam.exe:3656 TCP vista-x64:52135 cdn-208-111-168-7.ord.llnw.net:http ESTABLISHED
  23. Here is just one of many online stores that you can buy from, it sells for $29.99 at FRY'S Electronics
  24. You are welcome, should you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.
