  1. interesting, when i reinstalled it defaulted to auto proxy.
  2. now that things are back to normal, i have learned why it will not register a dll, it thinks i am not the administer. i created another profile with admin rights and it registers fine. how can i use zoek to restore registry back to previous? for your knowledge, i found that programs that need to register dll files can only be installed by someone with admin rights. thanks, tom
  3. ok, thanks, do you think it was avira or something with firefox?
  4. also maybe worthy of note is that netspeedmonitor will not install. actually it will not register the dll file. cannot be registered manually either, any ideas what may have changed in the system to prevent this? thanks, tom
  5. i reinstalled firefox to compare it with chrome and both seem about the same. overall the computer loads things much faster but avira is still removed Addition.txt FRST.txt
  6. well it seems to be ok, at least usable. some videos from youtube load at different rates, some just keep up and others load faster but that is probably internet site related. when i had netspeed in the task bar it was easy to have a good idea of actual speed and it seemed to be reliable, used it for years with no problems.
  7. yes both have almost the same issue which is why i thought hughesnet was slow but all speed test results show it to be ok. the other machine does not have avira but i use firefor on both and they are synced. was there nothing in the logs to indicate anything malicious or some kind of conflict? i read that java had some problem recently so i disabled that for the browser and it seemed just a little better.
  8. ok, but now since this is XP there is no anti virus in place. with the monitor in the task bar i had, or thought i had, feed back about the speed. it would agree with netspeed etc, but lots of times i click on a internet site and the browser just does nothing for long time if ever, have to cancel and refresh the request and then it goes. like it just hangs. you tube is watchable but sometimes stops to buffer. it used to be videos would load quickly with the monitor showing 6 to 10 Mbs download. now only was showing 20, 30 300 400 Kbs etc. my other machine is exactly same machine but with win7, does same thing so at first i suspected hughes net, but speed test sites showed good results. it is just the browser seems to have some conflict and is much much slower than the reports.
  9. that method of testing always showed good speeds just like hughesnet testing did, but in actual use browser crawled on almost all sites
  10. well actually i had already turned off a bunch of stuff, but the virus part was still running. hard to tell, my net speed monitor is gone from the task bar, can i reinstall it?
  11. ok, thanks, i tried to find that part of the site earlier but never had a reply. best, tom
  12. XP sp3 2 ghz, 4gb ram computer slow but main problem is firefox so slow that internet almost unusable, download speed often only 30 to 400 kbs. hughesnet sat connection, test with speed test sites shows 4 to 7 mbs speed but not when used with any other sites. Addition.txt FRST.txt CheckResults.txt
  13. i should tell you, i also have another computer networked to this one, peer to peer, that has the same issue. computer is slow but internet use is very hard. mostly both machines are extremely slow on internet and browser requests are often ignored until i refresh them and then it goes but very slow.
  14. yes, sorry, 4Gb ram. system was great until about 2 mths ago. CheckResults.txt Addition.txt FRST.txt
  15. XP sp3 2Ghz , 4Mb ram, using firefox, sat internet, asus router. internet is almost unusable but at short times it is normal. usually only 20 to 300 Kbs download speed.
  16. XP SP3, MWB, Avira, SB SD resident, CC cleaner, Hughesnet gen 4 sat, download test from most speed test sites confirms what hughes shows, about 8 mbit/s down and .9mbit/s up. But when using internet sites only get 20 kbit/s to 500 kbit/s with extremly breif moments of maybe as high as 3 mbit/s. Most sites wait for many seconds before responding, ebay and facebook crawl and miss many pics.
  17. system seems fine now, thanks for the help, donation sent tom
  18. hi, so i used chrome and it seemed to be ok, then the scrolling became jerky so i was suspicious. i ran MB and it found this just as before. mbscan.txt
  19. seems ok now could you tell me simply what was the issue and how to avoid it in future? would any win 7 machines on home network have been at risk? zoek-results2.txt
  20. logs zoek-results.txt combofix.txt Fixlog.txt
  21. let me also tell you, i am on a home network with 2 other machines, both are win7, i don't know if they will be at risk from this xp machine. scan.txt
