Yes definitely agree with you here, the confirmation is gettin back from the flashing 35% updates screen before login, the "sign in and install important updates "appearing and disappearing beside the cleanmgr gettin stuck on the clean up of said updates.... I just hope a fresh reset from the windows internal settings will do cause i dont have any CD, it was fabric preinstall. I will definitely follow the guide from Brink you linked. ok it was at 20 % from a good 10 minutes so i left clicked once the title bar for the command prompt and bam, blue wheel spinning system froze. Should i try and run the Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command ?

Good evening kind sir, The first time i tried to run the sfc/scannow it didnt even get past 0% when the computer froze, i tried to restart manually as usual and proceeded to try again. Now at 15% of the verification phase , will update you soon.

Yeah that was my first thought aswell. The Cleanmgr keeps stucking up on the "Cleaning Up Windows Updates" phase and then after about 1 hour of being stuck, simply shuts off by itself with no reports or logs whatsoever. Every passing minute im closer to completely reinstall the OS to see if it actually is an hardware issue, even tho i doubt it at this point.

I am sorry for this but since you gave input for it i thought i would cause no harm I connected my HD to a friends computer running Linux, and manually got rid of the Windows.old(1) folder. So while i was waiting for your answer i got the chance to connect my HD to a friends computer running Linux. I have gotten rid of the Windows.old(1) folder from there, finding many many firefox entries with censoreded up "(673289490235670826)" names. I have now reinstalled the HD to my laptop and its already running super smooth comparing to before, even to start up for a normal boot took it less than 1 minute. I will now see if the freezes keeps occurring and will update you on the issue. Also, after i booted after reinstalling the HD, i saw a message that was appearing earlier due to me choosing not to update: "Sign in now to install important updates " That red text from the login screen was gone after deleting the said "Windows.old(1)" folder. As i tried to run FRST it gave a weird freeze , it then shut off, the icon on the desktop changed and when i tried to run it again it said it wasnt appropriate for my system. I have now proceeded to delete the program and redownload it , will see how it goes.

same issue computer stucking up as soon as i click MoveIt button

After gettin the system to not freeze by running again the CLEANMGR, i ran the windows update troubleshooter following this http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/disk-cleanup-stuck-on-windows-update-cleanup/9c9449d1-be8a-4db0-a233-9f4ff1ed284c It found 2 errors saying they are now fixed. Should i try using OTM again to take care of that Windows.old(1) folder now?

Oh yah fun thing is i have windows updates turned off since i refreshed the system, as previously mentioned. In the "View Update History" folder i only see "You have not tried to install any updates for your computer." Installed updates just gives 8 entries, 4 of which are dated 16/08/2012 and cannot be uninstalled, the other 4 dated 26/12/2012 which CAN BE uninstalled. Yet this computer is in my hands from 2013 so i dont really know what thats about.

So i proceeded to rename the apparently corrupt folder to Windows.old(1) from Windows.old, ran the Disk Clean-Up again , and once again its stuck half way on Windows Update Cleaning, but the system is not freezing. I will now proceed to follow the instructions you linked.

The system started freezing again, and i guess to make it stable again is to rename the folder to the old name and run CLEANMGR again. In the meanwhile i guess i'll advice you about 2 icons named "desktop.ini" appearing on the desktop. They appear like "transparent" dll icon files. Im startin to be very concerned here.
