Same problem - last time it was related to Grammarly and reinstalled a newer I believe Beta version and solved. A few days ago unable to start real-time protection layers but don't find what the problem is. There are some other threads here about this, seems to be fairly widespread.

periodic "Real-Time Protection layers turned off"

I wonder if tcloud is running grammerly? I just starting having the same issue real time turned off and starting hangs. About a month ago issue solved by a Malwarebytes update I did direct from website - may have been Beta but now latest update brings back the issue? -
I reinstalled last night and they like each other again. But it seems the issue pops up with Grammarly updates assuming they had one in the last few days. This is 2nd or 3rd time the issue has popped up.

Just happened again to me. I had excluded the file before I thought. Grammerly must have just done an update. Starting Word in safe mode doesn't let me get to disable the add-on, crashes with Malwarebites exploit warning. Will try and uninstall and reinstall but this seems to happen every time there is a Grammerly update.

Lots of folks experiencing this. Excluding the update directory didn't work for me. I had to open Word in safe mode (Control+Word) and delete (uncheck) the Grammerly add on. But would like to have it work.

Update: Had to start Word in safe mode (control + Word) and uncheck Grammerly in add-ons. Then opened ok in regular mode. But have to solve so I can use Grammerly.

Likewise. There is another thread here same problem with earlier version of the grammerly exe file. Solution then was to exclude the folder for updates. I think you have to reboot to take effect since didn't cure without for me. Folder for me is C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Grammarly\Updates\ You may have different user name other than user. Am now rebooting and hopefully will let me into Word 2016 Well, didn't work. Excluded the Grammerly/Updates/ directory, rebooted and Word 2016 still crashes

Just started for me today. Can not open Word 2016 due to a 6.97.exe file Malware says exploit. Exactly the same as earlier reports on this thread just the add in appears new ver 6.97 will try and exclude.

I have seen this issue on this forum and others but always assume is a virus but instead of doing all the infection procedures thought I'd just raise the issue. It seems Malwarebytes is doing its job. Every week or so I get for many hours many times a second attempts by an IP usually from China with popup warnings by MB. I have run 5 other deep virus and Malware programs and all run even with deep scan as clean. My thought is for those that keep having these popups it is more proof MB is doing its job vs being infected? If I reboot I can usually stop the attack or probe or whatever it is. The IP it comes from varies but usually from China or Asia. The current IP starting 58. comes from China. I am not running any torrant or any P2P. Here is example of my attack/probe (running Win 7 64 bit) 00:00:17 davephx IP-BLOCK 58.240.188.133 (Type: outgoing, Port: 59287, Process: svchost.exe) 00:00:25 davephx IP-BLOCK 58.240.188.133 (Type: outgoing, Port: 59287, Process: svchost.exe) 00:00:25 davephx IP-BLOCK 58.240.188.133 (Type: outgoing, Port: 59287, Process: svchost.exe) 00:00:25 davephx IP-BLOCK 58.240.188.133 (Type: incoming, Port: 59287, Process: svchost.exe) 00:00:34 davephx IP-BLOCK 58.240.188.133 (Type: incoming, Port: 59287, Process: svchost.exe) 00:00:34 davephx IP-BLOCK 58.240.188.133 (Type: incoming, Port: 59287, Process: svchost.exe) I also see it running TCPview but doesn't give me any other info that seems useful.

I may have solved the issue but posting this as a possible heads up for others so won't waste the hours I just did chasing down problems. Am using Win 7 64 bit. Been using Malwarebytes (MB)for years with no problem. Last night it did the latest Win 7 update or some windows update of some sort resulting it seems in two issues: 1) Not MB related but after hours of Google reserach it seems the latest Windows update, automatically and without warning or invitation installs bing both a toolbar, takes over your default home settings in both IE and FireFox Since this isn't mb related just say wasted hours chasing down various cures and of course the easy ones didn't work (does not show up in CP Programs so can uninstall, the config thing in FF did not clear it and would up being different things had to do with IE, then FF and reset up my usual 5 default home pages on FF and one I have to use IE for. Next the MB problem: 2) When rebooted after update MB said it hadn't checked for updates in x days (I thought I had it set up to auto check daily but it has done this before.) When I run the update it gives the errors in the title. However, it was still running, in fact popup showed it was blocking stuff on incoming ports which it often does.. as its suppose to! Researching I found this error has been common over the years with various simple to complex solutions. I am not a computer geek just want things to work and have far too much to do vs working out computer bugs for hours but had to tonight. I found the 2009 post here about trying to reload various dll files. But that was pre Win 7 and didn't work. I used the MB-clean uninstall tool recommended here and when I ran it gave me the SAME runtime error as in topic. But a few seconds after the runtime error said it removed MB and nicely asked if I wanted to reboot. Rebooted, MB was gone, reinstalled, and SEEMS to be working fine again. Ran quick scan all clean and now doing deep scan. I really did not want to do the setup new user account which is recommended since with my network and my luck that would just create more problems. But in my case so far that was not needed. Hopefully this might help any others - not sure if the latest Win update broke MB but it is known it inserts bing if you EVER used any related programs like hotmail, chat or anything MS related even if uninstalled long ago Microsoft knows and insists on wiping your settings out with bing.
