Got this false positive last night.
(the installer is not new; the file is already almost a year old)

I suggest you browse the AVAST forum.
There have been several threads about the problems between AVAST 5 and MBAM real-time.
I started a thread myself here about that earlier this year.

When I went home tonight, it was still at 51MB.
It fell down at 41MB a little while afterwards.

We've had memory issues with 1.43, as some will recall.
My MBAMSERVICE usually takes about 41MB RAM.
This morning it was at 51MB and didn't go back to 41MB, even after an hour.
Is there some problem with a database update? (forgot to check which one I have but I update every morning at 2:30)

Yes I think Avast has made some changes....I just do it on my AV even if I am not having issues, this insures that they will NOT conflict with each other.

However I suggest the OP reports it as a false positive so AVAST removes it from their database.

I suggest you get the Avira rescue CD here:
You need to burn it onto a CD and boot from it.
I suggest you download and burn the ISO image from another, clean, computer.
I just removed Malwarebytes and Avast from 2 of them. Even though I paid for Malwarebytes I cannot run it yet. I install AVG and Avira as a test on these two and have not had a lockup yet. I may try and reinstall MBAM.exe if they are OK
MBAM runs perfectly well with Avira on my machine.

I did contact Support in the past but was redirected here in most cases, so it seems simpler to come here directly.
My AV is in fact Avira, and I don't have any problems with MBAM.
I tried AVAST 5 since I liked 4.8, but since it doesn't work with MBAM real-time on my machine, I'm waiting to give it another shot.
After the recent Avast program update. (5.0.396) I haven't had any conflicts, sorry I didn't report sooner, I forgot.
Good for you, but still buggy here.
Well it seems that it is not worked out 100% as I experienced the issue this morning again. I am working with Support to get this resolved. Will post further once fixed.
Will post further once fixed.
I'm wondering if it's a similar problem to the one many people (me included) are having with the new AVAST 5 and MBAM real-time...

Avast! seems to work fine with the new fix now.
Seems to still be in conflict with MBAM real-time.

I just removed it from mine and reinstalled M/soft Security Essentials -MSE is free and I find it very easy -
MSE is free and I find it very easy -
It was noticably slowing down my old P3-1000 when I tried it.
Avira works perfectly on it. (there's a free version too)

I may have to go back to Avira and deal with all the FPs.
Before I install AVAST 5 to try it, I was running Avira and got very *few* FPs.
Did you setup it with maximum heuristic sensitivity?
I use the regular level and get FPs extremely rarely.
Running XP Pro SP3 and the paid version of MBAM.
I was not able to install AVAST 5, so I did some search on the AVAST forum.
It appeared many of us (with the same problem) were running MBAM real-time.
I unticked the option to get MBAM run at starup and rebooted.
Now I was able to install AVAST 5!
Anyone else with he same problem?

Can't you just set the priority of the process to Below Normal?
I vote for the addition of a "Priority setting" control.
For the nightly daily quick scan, I'd set it at HIGH, but if I run a complete scan during the day, I'd like to set it at the LOWEST possible level.

Actually, if you right click the Tray Icon and select Start scanner it does open up the main program mbam.exe .
This is not obvious.
I thought this would launch the search, actually.
I'm with the OP on this issue.
What about replacing the string Start scanner with Show Main Screen then ?

In mine, I see the Used ID, and munged key.
But I have the 1.44 beta.
The beta was working perfectly when I got home.
The memory consumption remained stable all day.
Do we need to download the install program?
Or is the released version exactly the same as the beta we tested?
Posted January 7, 2010
I also installed the 1.44 beta this morning and it seemed stable at around 44MB!
Will check it tonight when I'm back home.
Thanks for the quick turnaround guys!

all u smart pc guys will fix this within a week. ill just sit back and read.
Very good idea...
Sorry Swandog, but I did the reg hack and it did nothing...
Just to be sure, did you reboot after the registry tweak?
Tried the registry tweak and rebooted.
Then tried the DB update emulator Douug provided me a few times and the memory consumption was going back to what it was before!
I then deleted the registry key that was in the Exclusions, and memory went up about 2MB.
I then rebooted and checked the memory which was at about 38MB.
Left work for work.
I'll check the memory again when I'm back home tonight.
When I left for work this morning, MBAM was at about 70MB, and when I went back tonight it was at almost 100MB.
There was no update in the meantime.
