  1. I used the internal MBAM 1.38 updater to update to 1.39 with latest signatures. It worked fine. I then did a full scan (fixed drive and USB drive) and it worked fine with no freeze ups or drop outs. No malware was encountered. I was using Windows XP SP3 on a PC without MS Visual Studio/C++ installed on it. I also do not run any other AV product except for MJ Registry Watcher.
  2. We have a network of old Compaqs (1GHz Celerons 256MB RAM on XP Pro 32-bit SP3) running KAV 6. We migrated the network to a Domain Controller security model with Active Directory etc. After the migration, we saw all PCs stall every 2 hours for a minute or 2, and this was very inconvenient. I was called out to investigate and I discovered KAV's update is set to every 2 hours by default. I changed this to once a day on all the PCs and the stalls disappeared. KAV attempts to punch through the new DC security layers to get its updates and locks the PC until manages to get through. KAV should reconsider how they do their updates, IMO.
  3. If you use MJ Registry Watcher you can stop certain values being written to the registry run keys by placing the value in the top window and prefixing it with an exclamation mark. I had a startup key being written to the run branch every time I printed something with my Samsung printer driver. I enabled keys list editing, and I put the offending value in the top window (the keys and values list), and now the run key value never gets written whatever I print. !hkey_lmus\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\Samsung Panel Manager hkey_lmus is a special MJRW mnemonic meaning local machine and any user. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE + HKEY_USERS I should think the same would be true of WM Player. However, I always use Media Player Classic with the K-Lite codec pack as it allows XP Home/Pro systems to play DVDs natively and smoothly!
  4. Yes, thank you, the Major Geeks link worked. Why cnet won't let you download unless cookies are allowed, is a mystery to me. Major Geeks didn't need cookies! I wonder whether Major Geeks and General Failure serve in the same infantry unit?!? Cheers!
  5. You guys are good. That kind of responsiveness doesn't happen in larger software houses! Keep it up!
  6. Thanks, that link works. The MBAM internal updater takes me to cnet again!
  7. That link goes straight to http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti...&tag=button which, again, is the cnet site. Why can't malwarbytes.org host a copy of MBAM too? How many downloads a day does it get? Is there a bandwidth problem precluding housing under your own wings, so to speak? Regards,
  8. I have a cookie policy in force which precludes me allowing cookies from cnet - too much ad server nonsense. However, I cannot download this latest release from their site without allowing cookies. Where else can I download 1.39 from? TIA,
