  1. Hi, I have been experiencing some slowness, like when computer starts or loading browser pages, but not necessarily anything that indicates malware/virus/etc. Then, a week ago or so, when the computer started it went through an auto drive repair. So I ran some scans last week, which didn't find anything unusual. However, I am concerned about the "bad block(s)". Last evening I backed everything up on an external hard drive. I'm attaching reports done last evening. Also, if this HD is on its way out, I'd like some information on what specs to look for in a new laptop. I know my current laptop does not meet requirements for Windows 11. I am not a gamer, but do want good graphics (not integrated, if possible) and I like to store/view photos/videos. Also, not interested in top of the line, but something that will last a while. Thank you, Julie Malwarebytes 220221.txt FRST 220221.txt Addition 220221.txt
  2. Hi, Just wanted to tell you I plan to follow through with the instructions tomorrow evening after work. Working two jobs, and not much time between right now. Thank you, Julie
  3. Hi, DONE- That last YouTube video explained the DNS pretty easy. So I just changed it from my computer. I had thought it was something I had to change from the router, which might affect the work computer for PT job. As for the iTunes issue, I did some reading and figured out how to reinstall it onto the computer through MS store. Before, I was using Apple's website. Everything there is running smoothly now, and didn't seem to reinstall the Bonjour. Are there any other changes or scans I should run? Thank you, Julie
  4. Hi, Sorry for the delay, again working two jobs. Please see notes below. *Not yet done. I work from home (for part-time job) on a business-owned computer, and must work a minimum of hours. I don't want anything to jeopardize my getting the hours in (for week-ending today) no unwanted complications for that computer. I will attend to this either this evening or tomorrow.* Changing your DNS to Google Public DNS is probably the easiest for most users https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using Here is a YouTube video to show how to make the changes as well Here is another YouTube video that describes another way of editing the DNS settings These are the values you want IPv4 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 IPv6 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844 Please uninstall, update, or otherwise address the following as appropriate for your system *Evernote uninstalled (I don't use it anyhow)* --------------------------- [ OtherUtilities ] ---------------------------- Evernote v. 5.9.1 v.5.9.1.8742 Warning! (Blame it on my exhausted mind/body.) Anyhow, I have other issues now. So first, I looked up in the Windows 10 Settings, under all apps & features. From that page, I tried to "modify" but I think I accidentally clicked on remove...since the icon and program were no longer visible afterward. I went to apple website and downloaded iTunes. It even opened once. Sometime thereafter, when I tried to open the program, I now get the error message listed below. I do apologize for this added headache. I'm pleased to inform you that this is the last week I should have to work so many hours at full-time job, and I'll do my best to follow your new instructions to a "T". iTunes v.12.12.1.1 Warning! 5. Hi, I had a lot of trouble with my internet. Then, part way through troubleshooting, I decided to restart the laptop. When I did this, it started processing/installing a windows update. After this finished, I was finally able to use the internet and the laptop without very slow behavior. See my notes by your directions below. uninstall the following Bonjour *Uninstall done* Windows Defender does not like the following file from CCleaner - please delete it if it's still there C:\Users\julie\Documents\Downloads\ccsetup563.exe *couldn't locate this file in that directory. 6. Hello, I just saw your reply. I work two jobs, and I won't be able to follow through with your directions until late afternoon/evening (11/11/21). Just wanted you to know. Appreciate your help. Julie
  7. Hi, Last evening, I saw the yellow caution on the Windows Security icon. When I opened, the section about unwanted apps stated this computer had one. In looking at the name of it (wished I would have taken a snip of screen to show you the name), the name seems familiar to me...like I've had problems with it before. It had "piriform" and "cc" in the name. I did have CCleaner on my computer a few years ago, and since have dealt with remnants. So, I ran some reports for you (malwarebytes didn't find anything, but couldn't find a report from that scan) and will include a snip of my 'unwanted app security' from this morning. Thank you in advance for your help! ~Julie AdwCleaner[S06]211109.txt FRST211109.txt Addition211109.txt
  8. Hi, Just wondering if this new icon in my system tray is legitimate?? I do have a Brother printer, which when I Googled, it seems like they are associated. However, the search results also said something about Trend Antivirus/Security, which I DO NOT have. Thank you, Julie
  9. I thought piriform was gone, until it kept showing up yellow in the Windows Defender. I clicked on "remove" under the actions, for both. Then, both showed as "blocked" in windows defender. I think all is working well now. I will just monitor and deal with the spam/junk emails...and hopefully we will see the daily number go down. Thanks for everything!
  10. Email- They use Outlook, and I know my sister has them on her 365 subscription. What about the Piriform Bundle?
  11. Also- they have a major problem with their email address receiving junk/spam/phishing emails. I emptied their junk mail about 36 hours ago, and they had 120 more. Products they would never buy, not sure how to deal with this continuing problem. Ideas?
  12. Okay, the iCloud is no longer opening on startup. All looks good, except there is a yellow exclamation mark in Windows Security. Seems to be under "App & Browser Control > Reputation-based protection > Review". See the two snips below. Note, I had uninstalled the piriform bundle on Saturday.
  13. My mom has an older iPhone. So a couple times each year she might get on the iCloud. I can probably look later to see how to deselect the iCloud on startup. Thank you! Fixlog 210323.txt
  14. All steps followed. I don't think my parents use it only rarely, but the Patch My Home PC scanner had the icloud for Windows update. Now, the icloud sign in appears on computer start up. Could we disable it's start with Computer start?? It will just confuse them. Thanks again! FRST 210323.txt Addition 210323.txt
  15. The AnyPlayer is uninstalled. I did not see New Office listed. Question on the attached log. It lists Avast, which my parents don't currently use, or didn't know they were still using. Prefer to just use Windows Defender. They previously did have an Avast subscription a few years ago. --------------------------- [ AntiSpyware_WMI ] --------------------------- Windows Defender (disabled and up to date) Avast Antivirus (enabled and up to date) SecurityCheck 210322.txt
  16. Okay, Google is reset. In the process, I found some extensions on the browser that were probably from an old Avast account. Also, deleted some search engines again. Haven't had any popups with new tabs, etc. YAY! Question: What is Any Player? See snip. It is on her taskbar. Any other scans or settings I need to review? Thank you!
  17. Scan results: "No threats found" When looking for the "report", there was a window that showed individual "objects", all with "okay" on the left side. That page would not let me copy/paste or save. I still have it open, and could send about 15 screenshots if it would help. I am going to include a couple of screenshots below, which show the popups and new tabs that are still autogenerating in Chrome (these are what caused me to initially contact malwarebytes). There doesn't seem to be the same issues in Edge. I know my mom uses Chrome exclusively. Thank you
  18. Parents did inadvertantly buy CCleaner 1 1/2 years ago or so. Last year in January we removed, we thought. I went through and removed the piriform. Fixlog 210320.txt msert.log
  19. Also, when I was turning on the Firewall again after the fix, there was information about a piriformbundler. See attached snip.
  20. I haven't had time to check the Edge and CHR Startup Urls. Bonjour is now uninstalled. I have not had time to change teh DNS provider(s). Zoom was not blocked on purpose, the app is now allowed through Firewall. Attached is the fixlog. I'll try to do get to the other things after work tomorrow. I work two jobs, and work all weekend at both. Thank you, Fixlog 210319.txt

  22. Hello, #1 The browser was not signed in, and upon trying to sign them in we discovered nobody knows the password and the security email/phone number are obsolete. When going to their Outlook mail, that also would not let us sign on with the password. My mom doesn't remember changing the Outlook password at all. She probably doesn't even understand about the Google sign in, so she was unaware of the password for that. The phone associated with the security on both is a landline, and unable to receive a text. Have no idea what to do about that, but proceeded to the scan. #2 The ESET scan is still in process. It has been going on for almost four hours now. It was up to 306,000 files scanned, but appears to be going slowly. At this point, there is "1" detection. I will check it in the morning, but going to bed for the evening now. Let me know if I should do something, in case the scan is still in progress in the morning. Or any other direction. THANK YOU!
  23. Hello, I've got my mother's laptop. She has some kind of a browser hijacker. Attached are reports from: Malwarebytes scan Adwcleaner scan Farbar scan I'd appreciate guidance at this point, as I'm not in IT. THANK YOU! 24. Hello, I'd like to help my elderly friend who is having popups all the time, which appear to be from the WishApp. I talked her through disabling notifications, etc in Windows 10, as well as in the Chrome browser. I found a removal guide for the WishApp at the link below. http://www.malwareremovalguides.info/remove-wishapp/ My question, is whether or not this is a good removal guide? My friend does not have a laptop, and at the present time I am recovering from a total joint replacement surgery. Therefore, I do not have access to the computer myself. Unfortunately, my elderly friend has a hard enough time with basic computer funcions. I am hoping to talk them through instructions by phone. Please advise. Thank you, Julie
