BD83 posted while I did. To clarify; it was a proper shut down and did not just cut off like a light switch. Okay guys- what should I be looking for when I look at my power supply?

Hello, Constructive insight is welcome here as well (grin). I get the feeling that if there is a power issue it would have come up a lot sooner. However, I am not completely ruling it out. Hello, My machine did a quick shut down while I was using it. One thing I need to tell you is that this is a refurbished model and I purchased the machine 10/04/13. It does not have a one year warranty. I called HP customer service and was told that free protective software is useless and that the technician would scan for free. Free; yeah, right. I know darn well that he would have 'found' something to 'fix' for a fee. I am going to get help sometime this week to clean the innards out as it is way overdue. What is rootkit detection and do I need it? Anne

Hello, Constructive intrusions are welcome too BD83 (smile). If, in fact, it is a hardware problem, it seems most likely that I need to clean it out. I have had this desktop for less than a year. For now I will take a wait and see approach. There has not been any kind of shut downs except for the once. How often should I clean the machine anyway? Anne

Hello John, Constructive intrusions are welcome (smile). My computer just powered down of it's own volition. It never happened to me (ever) before and seemed rather odd. For the most part I have a clean machine- clearing the cache regularly and full scans with Avast and, of course, Malwarebytes. Anne

Hello, If my computer shut down for an update, it is not the way it usually works. I always get a request to restart after an security update if that is required for any specific one/s. Just the same, I will take a wait and see attitude for now. Thanks to all for your assistance. Anne

Sorry for the tardy reply. I looked and found no warning or errors. Should I not be too concerned about the shut down for now if nothing else happens?

Hello, I have an HP Desktop, Windows 7, 32 bit, IE 11. For some reason, as I was using my computer, the machine did a forced shut down all by itself while being used. I did a full scan with my Avast software and Malwarebytes and nothing showed up. Should I still be concerned? Anne

Hello to all, A.S. was correct about there being no free Abbyy/OCR software, It was bundled with my printer/scanner. It must have gotten deleted some time ago but I reinstalled the program and now I have it. Thanks, Anne

Hello, I need to download Abbyy/OCR free software. I have been to many websites and every time I try to save a download to my desktop I get a "This Page Can Not Be Displayed" page. I suspect it is because of my popup and banner blocking programs. What to do? Anne
