  1. Kevin, thanks for the information and all your help. You were clear and concise the whole time, really made this process painless. Thanks again! -Reed
  2. Kevin, all those steps completed successfully. Had an issue with Google Chrome preferences, but sorted that out. Several Windows Updates also occurred. Everything seems to be working normally. Thank you so much. Can you please tell me what I had and what it was doing? I'm curious, especially since none of my protections caught it. What would you recommend as a decent set up for a home computer as far as virus/malware protection? Currently, I am using McAfee Security Center (paid) and PC Tools Spyware Doctor. Thanks again for your help!
  3. Both Java and Reader updated successfully. No older versions of Java showing on the machine.
  4. Kevin, everything seems to be working normally, including McAfee now. Thank you so much for your help and time. I really appreciate it. Fixing these issues has allowed me to install Quickbooks on the desktop so now I can continue with my business work. I will be dropping you a donation. Thank you. Cheers. -Reed Vancouver, Canada
  5. Kevin, The Services Repair tool seemed to do the trick. Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and Windows Update are all working. Windows Defender detected no problems. I am currently running a scan through Spyware Doctor as well just to see. Windows Update is installing some updates and I will re-install McAfee asap and see how that performs. I will post again when that is all done to confirm. Thank you so much for your time and help! -Reed
  6. OTL Extras: I tried to run Windows Defender but that would not start. I also tried to run Windows Update again and it told me the service is not running and I may need to reboot. I did not reboot and try this. I'm not sure what needs to be done here. It's not a problem, but when I open Google Chrome is notifies me that some of my preferences my not work. These are so far the only ongoing issues. I want to note also, that in the OTL scan it was set to files at 30 days old. The files that I originally downloaded (and have since deleted) is much older than 30 days. I don't know if that will be an issue. I just wanted to note these things in case they are important. Otherwise, everything else seems to be running normally. Thank you for all your help so far. Eager to know what comes from these logs! Thanks!
  7. Thank you! I ran all the tools. Here are the logs: FRST Fixlog: rkill.log: Malwarebytes quickscan log: AdwCleaner[s1]:
  8. Hi All, I hope you can help me with this problem. I've had it for some time. I opened what I thought was a video file and nothing happened. Shortly afterwards I noticed that my McAfee would disable itself and Windows Security Essentials and Windows Defender would not open. Recently I've discovered that Windows Update will not work either. Otherwise my system functions normally, but I feel uneasy with this going on. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64x. I have uninstalled McAfee including my settings and registration information. I have run Malwarebytes and HiJack This and posted the logs below. HiJack This brought up a notification that my Host files could not be accessed and may have to be altered manually. Malwarebytes found no infections. Please let me know if I need to provide more information and thanks in advance for looking. -Reed mbam-log-2013-07-21 (15-42-00).txt hijackthis.log
