  1. The site has been whitelisted. Please allow 15-30 minutes for changes to take effect. Sorry for the inconvenience.  For reference, there was no problem with your site or the file in question.  We err on the side of caution with regard to sites with low volume and block download of executables and Office macros.  When something like this is reported, I inspect and verify the site and the download file, then whitelist.  Your installers will be available for download shortly.

     

  2. Please provide a public link to a site which will allow me to see the Captcha problem in action.  We have made some changes and I would like to see if they have helped, or if we are still waiting for changes to take effect.

Thank you for that information.  Before I pass it on to our QA group, I wanted to ask whether you get the same memory behavior if you had Edge open to any other home page, then go to Disney+ and log in?  The reason I am asking is that there may be something related to their validation and/or streaming processes that has different behavior if it is explicitly started rather than fully/semi-automated.  There are multiple processes involved, and not having Disney+, I can only guess at potential roadblocks.  Subtitles and screen size should not make a difference.  Please let me know about this one last item and I will start filling in the blanks for our QA folks.

I made an adjustment to the whitelist entry.  Give it 30 minutes and try it again.  Technically speaking, use of a tracker should be informational only and should not be an integral part of a process.  Browser Guard is designed to (among other things) block trackers.  Your process should complete whether or not that domino falls.

  6. Trying with the different protection levels enabled/disabled for the Disney site will be good information to know.  I am expecting that one or more of the settings will produce different results for you.

    In the meantime, could you provide a detailed list of how I can reproduce the problem, beginning from booting the computer.  Please do NOT include anything related to Discord, Steam or any other auxiliary processes that you typically use UNLESS they cause the issue.  We will need to create a virtual machine to try to reproduce and isolate the cause(s) for this issue.

  7. Please provide a log from Browser Guard which has been created immediately after the error has been encountered.  I can do go to the website itself, so something about the communication between the calling website and the site which you have specified is the issue.  The log will hopefully show me that information.

  8. Your DWM usage is not bad...a tad high, but not bad.  Disk space is not bad either, though you probably think so if and when a rebuild is necessary.  May want to think ahead on that one, because the day WILL come.  My disk structure is designed to attach and detach...avoid using My Documents and Downloads due to the added OS snooping/registry documentation they cause and all personal stuff in a single tree structure below a attach point.  That makes backup to an external drive easy, and a rebuild means OS + apps +restore personal and I'm done.  My home box (i7-6700 @ 3.4 GHz) is also too wimpy for Win11. I am also not fond of rebooting often.  Home box uptime is 19+ days, work box at 5.  Updates always take care of that.  Home box often runs 50-80 open browser tabs plus Word, Excel, VLC and various other things and rarely breaks 50% of 16 GB memory usage...usually only when paging through websites that are heavy scripting users.  Yours is high, and there has to be a reason for that.  BG just makes it more obvious, if its really BG doing it.

    Please try Netflix.  We can easily compare yours to mine at that point.

    Vendor diags are best...Dell, Lenovo, Compaq, etc.  Known-good aftermarket diags as well.  If your box is old, you should also check all your drivers, particularly video drivers.  I had a nagging connectivity problem on my work box that I couldn't figure out nor could our IT team. They wanted to replace the box, but I had the exact same problem on the box before that.  While scratching my head, I realized the only thing that had not changed was the docking station.  Connectivity to the laptop was supplied via USB-C from the dock to the laptop, which is not native USB usage.  Driver updates for docking station finally fixed the problem.  Sometimes seemingly unrelated things are more closely related than you think.

    Sleep-help videos?  That implies at least one eye open at various times to watch the video, thus blocking the true intention to sleep?!?  Try white-noise audio...background noise which does not require that you pay attention to it in any way.  I fell asleep watching TV last night, and I have pretty good recollection of two different movies that were on later WHILE I WAS ASLEEP that I had never seen before.  I turned the damn thing off and hit dream state pretty quickly.  Just a thought...

On my personal box (16GB RAM), I only exceed 60% when I have been opening and closing baseball-reference.com pages or ancestry.com pages for hours, both due to heavy script use on those sites.  50% RAM is unusual for me unless I have more than 40-50 tabs open at once.  Right now, I am running 54% RAM with Firefox open (42 tabs), Chrome (18 tabs), Excel, Word, graphics viewer, text editor, and Edge streaming Netflix (Altered Carbon).  Edge is running at roughly 550MB used consistently while streaming Netflix.

    I asked about DWM because on my work laptop, I watch it push my RAM use up to 99% if I do not pay attention to it.  It does not do that on my personal machine.  When its running "sanely", it is about 130MB on my work box, and 36 MB on my home box.  The work box was using 80-90MB before I went to Windows 11, and it also took much longer to run out of RAM as well.  Killing that process will kill graphics-oriented processes (streaming, games, etc.) but it automatically restarts after you kill it.  It also leaves a decent-sized black void on a Outlook screen....no clue what or why, but a restart of Outlook takes care of that.  You have to manually restart any apps that were killed by killing DWM.  It is true that you should not blindly kill processes.  Some people will, while others would rather poke their eyes out with a sharp stick before killing any process.  This one auto-restarts, so its OK.  I do understand your concern there.

    My questions were (in general) looking for answers, and sometimes looking for the possibility of other questions that may need to be asked.  Sometimes they may also end up meaning nothing.  We find that out after we bang the head against the wall, unfortunately.  And, I have a few of those for you right now.  Here goes:

    1. You said you have streamed Disney+ and Netflix on Chrome without any problems, but Disney+ on Edge is causing problems.  Have you tried streaming Netflix on Edge?
    2. Have you run computer diagnostics recently?  It would be good to know if your computer AND video RAM are both functioning normally, as well as the amount of video RAM you have installed.  Problems or limited buffers cause functionality to fall back on primary components.
    3. How's your disk space?

    In all the time it took me to write this, Edge's RAM use increased to 580-600MB, and it uses an extra 30MB when I open the Browser Guard screen (I wanted to see if it had anything to complain about while streaming Netflix).  It drops back down when I close the BG screen.  I just checked out something on Edge while it is streaming.  One of the processes is "Media Foundation Protected Pipeline EXE" (mfpmp.exe).  It is only using 31-34 MB of Edge's total 525 MB (a bit lower than it was earlier).  It is doing GPU1 Video Decode (you can turn on the GPU Engine column of Task Manager to see that).  When the episode completed, Edge RAM use dropped to 441 MB and mfpmp.exe dropped to 22.9 MB, with no further video decoding being performed.

    That's a lot to digest, but see how you compare on your end.  I think Question #1 is important.  What we do not know is whether Edge uses regular RAM with a higher priority over video RAM when streaming.  I'll wait to hear what you have to say.

  10. Your log is not showing anything particularly strange.  I see two things from your Task Manager that are troubling...three if I count your complaint.  First is that 77% of RAM with as little as you have running is troubling.  62% RAM in your earlier screenshot is troubling as well.  DO you only have 8GB of RAM in that box?  Windows 10 needs that as a bare minimum, and I would not even recommend that.  I try to limit my own RAM usage to a maximum of 60% at any given time.  Second, Desktop Window Manager is running over 300MB of RAM.  That does not appear to be bad, unless it is causing memory leaks that are appearing elsewhere.  DWM memory usage is a Microsoft bug that has never been fixed.  In Task Manager, I would right-click on Desktop Window Manager and end the task.  It will cause other things to stop when you do that...Disney may be one of them, but it is worth trying to see if your memory usage immediately reduces significantly.

    We have opened a ticket to study this further.  On your side, have you considered modifying the level of protection that Browser Guard uses on the DIsney site?  Click on the Browser Guard icon, and you can choose to enable/disable any or all of the four types of protection on any web site you are on.  I would suggest experimenting with this just for Disney when you are streaming.

  11. The Task Manager display which you show focuses exclusively on Edge.  I wanted to see what else is going on at the same time.  I do not have Disney, so I cannot make a direct comparison.  I use Windows 11 on my work computer, Which also prohibits direct comparison.  On my home computer, I fired up Netflix both with and without Browser Guard in use in Edge.  I also have Firefox running (with about 30 tabs), Chrome (with about 12-15 tabs), Word, Excel and a graphics viewer.  My 16GB computer is using 62% RAM streaming Netflix with BG running, 61% without, and 57% after stopping Edge.  I think you have a lot of other stuff running at the same time, or possibly have a memory problem.  Showing Task Manager without expanding to show only Edge would show a lot more relevant information.

    You can get a debug log by following these two screenshots.  Please make sure that you get the log immediately after you experience the problem.
