  1. After installing the previous "new" version I still experienced the network issues that was part of my problem before. My main desktop computer, which connected to my router via ethernet cable, would freeze and all other devices in my household, which connect wirelessly, would continue to be connected to the network but without internet access. When I first discovered that Malwarebytes was the problem I turned off both web and ransomeware protection and all was back to normal. Once I installed the version that had been a beta, the freezing stopped but the problems with internet connections for all devices returned. As soon as I turned of the same two protections all was fine again.

Now I just installed the new 3.7.1.2839 version and enabled all protections again and immediately my internet connection was lost. Disabled both and internet returned. I previously used my Intel network adapter but uninstalled it and deleted its driver based on a recommendation here in this thread. I have been using my Realtek PCIe GBE adapter since then.

Is anyone else still having problems with this?

  2. When did the freeze first start occurring?

    Roughly mid-December.

What were you doing on the computer immediately prior to the latest freeze?

All of the freezes here occurred while the computer was idle, never while I was actually on the computer.

Did you notice anything significant occur around the time of the latest freeze (e.g. AV notification, application crash, etc)?

Again, PC was idle. I only would notice because all other devices connected wirelessly would lose internet access, though still connected to my home network.

Has a freeze occurred when the computer is idle?

    Yes, always.

Have you noticed a correlation between high network traffic and the computer freezing?

    No.

How often does the computer freeze?

    Three or four times daily.

Are you able to reproduce the freeze on-demand? If the answer is yes, what are the steps?

    No.

    How old is the computer?

    Seven years.

Was the computer upgraded from XP/Vista to Windows 7?

No, was always Windows 7 x64 Pro.

Is the computer fully up-to-date with Windows Updates? Which updates have been installed after the first freeze occurred?

No, missing November and December 2018 updates.

Does the computer have multiple network adapters? If it does, what happens when you disable the adapter currently in use and switch to a different adapter?

Yes. I disabled and deleted the Intel adapter driver and switched to the Realtek adapter, however I also disabled MB Web Protection and Ransomeware Protection so I can't say which fix worked.

    Thanks, Jim

  3. Glad I found out about this issue before doing anything too drastic on my system! Freezing started about two weeks ago. Windows 7x64, custom built by Puget Systems, AV is MSE. I downloaded the MB support file but haven't run it yet - I will right after posting this.

I am seeing another issue that only occurs when my desktop freezes: all other devices in my house that connect to my network wirelessly are still connected to the network but with no internet access. I'm talking about 12 other devices: Android phones and tablets, iPhones and iPads, and 4 Windows 7x64 computers, all losing internet access as soon as my desktop freezes. BTW my desktop is the only device that freezes and is also the only device connected to my Asus router via ethernet. All the others connect wirelessly. I've been restarting the router, talking nice to the router, and even yelling at the router! Needless to say nothing helped.

In the meantime I have disabled both Ransomeware and web protection for now.

Thanks for the info and help here in the forum.

  4. Hey exile360, I was having the same problem - web protection was off and would not turn on. My version was 3.4xxx (not sure now what all the numbers after 3.4 were!). I followed your advice above and the latest version was installed. That fixed the web protection issue. However I have the program set to automatically download and install program updates. Isn't that working anymore? Should I regularly use the Install Application Updates button instead?

    Thanks!

Post a way to turn it off while we waiting for update!!

Simple. Go to Administrative Tools>Component Services, locate Malwarebytes Service, enter Properties and on the Recovery tab change First and Second and Subsequent Failures to "Take No Action". Stop the service  (Malwarebytes Service) and then "End Process" in Task Manager.

Note that you will reverse the above in Component Services once a working update is released and installed.

  6. Miekiemoes,

Well I can confirm that Dropbox was completely wiped from my computer.

I was surprised that it hasn't happened to more users, but then again I only got the short pop-up on my screen. Nothing in quarantine and nothing in reports. If I hadn't been at the computer and seen the pop-up I wouldn't have known that MB was even involved. I wonder how many people are missing their Dropbox and not realizing that MB deleted it.

    Thank you.

    Jim

  7. Miekiemoes, that is not correct. Dropbox does get deleted. It is not just the process being stopped. This has been posted several times, yet you continue to insist it is not happening. My dropbox was deleted early this morning. It's gone. I attached my log above.

  8. Really deleted, not just ended. Dropbox was just removed completely from my computer here a half hour ago. Nothing in quarantine, nothing in the Reports section, though it does show in the MBAMService Log. I also posted to the other Dropbox thread and attached my log there.

  9. Just happened to me also. I restarted my PC and shortly after Dropbox started indexing, as it always does, I got a pop-up at the lower right of my screen saying Ransomware had just been handled and it showed the path for dropbox.exe. I checked and sure enough, dropbox.exe is gone. Nothing shows in the quarantine or anywhere else I can see on Malwarebytes. Log attached.

    Thanks.

  10. Thanks for the reply.

First, I wasn’t planning to reinstall but it sounds like you are implying that I should. Before I do that, I noticed that in a few other threads mentioning this or a similar issue it is mentioned that the website protection might not work at all on 64 bit systems. Is that true?  (If so, then what would reinstallation get me?)

Since it appeared like it was working before yesterday I thought perhaps it was just a temporary glitch. Guess not.

I'll wait to hear back on whether or not this feature is even working on 64 bit machines before proceeding.

    Thank you.

  11. When I sat down at my computer tonight there was a warning popup at the lower right corner of my screen:

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

    PROTECTION DISABLED

One or more components of protection are disabled.  Fix Now--->

The "Fix Now" button did nothing so I opened Malwarebytes and saw:  'Malicious Website Detection Disabled". I checked in Settings and it was checked "Disabled" there also, though it hadn't been before. I checked "Enable" but that didn't help - it still says that it is disabled on the Dashboard. I see that a few others have reported similar messages on the forum here.

I am running Malwarebytes 2.0.1.1004 on Windows 7x64 with Windows Professional. I ran Malwarebytes 1.x for a couple years on this machine and never saw a similar message appear. I have had a paid license Pro license for two and a half years.

I appreciate any help you can offer.

    Thank you.

  12. Just a quick warning to all:

I've used Networx network monitor for years without any problems. However the last update I installed a few weeks ago showed a checkbox for AVG Secure Search and another AVG toolbar (can't remember the name of the other one). Though disappointed to see the developers of Networx go this way, I continued with the update installation, first making sure I deselected all the AVG checkboxes. Guess what? Yep - the AVG crap installed itself anyway. Searches on this showed plenty of other folks who encountered the same issue with AVG's crapware contained in the installers for a number of other programs too.

I'm surprised because I haven't seen this kind of behavior from the Networx developers before. Although Networx itself is free, they offer several other pay-programs, mostly for "enterprise" clients. I am now done with Networx for good.

Though I encountered this about three or four weeks ago, I am posting about it now because I keep finding remnants of the AVG crap even though I uninstalled it using Revo Uninstaller Pro, which usually does a great job finding all the various parts of programs including registry entries.

Surprisingly neither Norton AV 2013 nor my Malwarebytes Pro flagged any parts of the AVG crap. Is AVG somehow exempt from detection by other security software because AVG itself is considered a security program?

    Thanks!

    Jim
