  1. Bingo! Thank you, Maurice! Disabling Avira's real-time scanner did it. I'm not sure why it became an issue with this version of MBAM, but there it is. (Back in May I used the Norton Removal Tool to remove as much of Norton as I could--and then found a couple other Norton files that I removed manually.) Thank you again! Jo-Anne
  2. Hi, Ron and Yardbird, MBAM freezes at around 21,000+ files, but it runs VERY slowly even getting to that point. It's exactly the same issue I had back in May. But it's been working fine up til this latest version. Seems like it was a new version last time that caused the freezing, and the next version cleared it up. Strangely, it happens only on my old Dell desktop computer, not on my new Dell laptop, even though I'm running WinXP SP3 on both. (One difference: The problem computer is running XP Home, the other one XP Pro.) Last May I thought it was because I was using Norton on my old computer, but then I switched to Avira. All was well til I updated to Avira version 9 (the free one), and then I had a freezing problem for a while. It finally went away, and MBAM and Avira have worked well together until the latest MBAM version. I suspect eventually whatever glitch there is will be worked out. In the meantime, I'll try running MBAM in Safe Mode again, since that worked in the past when it froze. Thanks much! Jo-Anne
  3. Back in May I had a problem with MBAM freezing. It eventually cleared up. I just downloaded 1.39 last night, and now MBAM is freezing again. I'm using Avira 9 on my WinXP SP3 computer. Last time I had the problem, scanning in Safe Mode worked. I haven't tried it yet this time. Jo-Anne
  4. My antivirus program is the free Avira AntiVir, version 9.0.0.394, dated 4/17/09. I was using Norton Internet Security 2008 until about a week or two ago, when I uninstalled it and installed Avira AntiVir. Jo-Anne
  5. 1.36. Sorry I forgot to include that, Ron!
  6. Since I installed the latest version of MBAM, I've had an issue with freezing on my WinXP SP3 computer. This happened with an earlier version, and then the next version cleared it up. The newest one started it again. Even doing a quick scan can take hours--if it finishes at all. If, however, I scan in Safe Mode, there's no problem. I haven't done anything new to my computer, and the freezes started with the first scan I did after installing the new version. Here's hoping the next version will bring things back to normal. Thank you!
