  3. ok now i have a little bit problem whit avast software updater: it says to me the update state is critical and says to download the latest version of java runtime environment 6; in the oracle website the version 7 was available so i downloaded it... but the software updater still notifies the critical state and says to download the latest 6 version... i tried to reset the database... could i uninstall JAVA 6 update 14 (64-bit) to solve the problem? thank u
  4. hi dfb just one last question: are avast and malwarebytes sufficient to scan pendrive and external hard drive or are there any specific applications to have more reliable results? thank u, bye
  5. I will install both of them free versions thank u for the help
  6. thank u very much dfb! i will try all of these programs as soon as possible. I've already installed mozilla whit wot, adblock plus and webutation addons (i think i will install also comodo dragon) So do u think it could be safe to download avast free and use it to scan my external hard drives? I don't think they're onfected but i prefer to be sure. do u know any good program to do a checksum of the download? it happens every day to download software with "unknown" author, and learn to do checksum could be very useful i think. very complete and helpful!
  7. hi dfb, thank u for reopening the thread, i'm right now doing all the procedure to update window (very boring and very slow... 4 year of updates!)... my pc now should be completley clean because how i said the recovery disks restored a new recovery partition (assuming the virus was here, but it's not sure)... can u give me some advice to scan my external hard drive and to keep my pc clean (now i have a norton trial version preinstalled, but it's not very good, fi the result was to take 2 virus in a week)? and some way to browse in a way as safe as possible (i discover comodo dragon, it seems to be very good)? are there any articles or websites where i can get any other good advices (such as bleeping computer for examples)? thanks, bye
  8. Hi everybody About a month ago i made an accurate virus scans whit the help of one of the malwarebytes volunteer. Finally i decide however to reset my pc to factory condition using hp utility. I just reset my pc to factory conditions from about one month and i'd like to avoid to do it again. But now i have another problem Unfortunateley I was installing daemon tools lite and i clicked accidentally on a wrong download link.... I immediateley stop the installation... but however my browser get infected.... mozilla had strange po up and i re installed it(managing to fix it, now it's running correctly)... But explorer now is still full of strange pop up.... I run ccleanaer and deleted all app data and temp files.... i run norton antirus preinstalled in my factory conditiono pc and it find a tracking cooky; so i fixed it.... but interent explorer is still infected. What have i to do? could i re use all the program the person who helped me in the previews post sent to me? thank u very much!
  9. thank u fred i already had read the article u linked and i think i will follow as soon as possible the instruction.... the alternative is to download a free version of windows from dreamspark (im a student) and to reinstall it to have a new clean OS without all the bloat ware hp utilities... i'm gonna decide as soon as possible... are there any good programs to make a system image i'd like to keep just in case something's going wrong?(a friend advice me on clonezilla)
  10. hp.... my pc in particullar is an hp pavillion dv6 1330sl i know that there is a recovery manager
  11. hi fred, i'm studing how to recover my pc or how to do the factory reset... i stored all my data on my removable disk and now i'm doing another fast back up on dvd.... the problem is that i haven't got the cd with the operating system.... i found that to do the factory reset i have to go in contro panel click the advanced recovery option and select the return to the factory condition button.... is this procedure possible even if i haven't got the cd whit the windows installer? have i to do an image of the system or a recovery cd or what else? Is there any procedure i can start from during the booting pressing f8? I'm not expert but i want to do averything by myself and i need to be sure my action won't damage the functionality of my notebook.... thank u very much
  12. ok thank u d-fred, now my problem is that i have to save all my files on my external hard disk, but in this way i risk to pass the rootkit on it. Are there any scan procedure to control external memories (i would like to scan also my pendrives) after i use them to store all my data from the infected pc? I'd like to know if ther's any method to kill the rootkit, so i could store all my data on the external memories without fear to infect them. I run windows 7 on this pc but i haven't the system CD. I know that i could do the restore procedure to bring the pc at the factory beginning conditions. but i have not understand if there's any difference with the reformatting procedure, and if the effectiveness is the same. last question: AM I INFECTED? all the scan i made revealed no infection but the last one (that however detect a .exe and not a installed application or something else radicated in the system). So i don't know what to think about the real security state of my system. THANK U SO MUCH excuse the waterfall questions
