  1. I've never heard of having to download an application to access one's Hotmail before. What version of Firefox are you running, Ibrad? I am running 3.5.9
  2. Oh I know you know, I was replying to Kangaroo actually That's not good that Kaspersky is outdated But at least it blocked the threat. IE7 though is still supported and will continue to be for quite some time
  3. Exploits (especially via outdated software such as Adobe Reader flash, Java, etc) or simply exploiting a security vulnerability present on the website itself, an infected advertisement, things like that.
  4. No issues here! I haven't tried to get into my Hotmail via IE today though, but have several times today in Firefox.

  6. Hello Trafalgarman211068, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org Are you running any P2P applications, such as LimeWire, BitTorrent, Vuze, uTorrent, etc..? If so, these could be accounting for your constant pop ups. If not, do you have any reason to believe you've been infected recently?
  7. Thanks! I made sure it was updated last time I was there, and that was still the case today Sure, next time I'm there I'll show ya the Speccy shots/logs. I could uninstall/reinstall but he's downloaded a few songs, but I could back those up on Flash drive, just hope DRM wouldn't interfere with them working again, heh.
  8. Happy Happy Birthday!!! :) Enjoy it!
  9. Thanks Exile! I'll check these out too! Do you have any idea though, why movies/video might play fine on YouTube, Hulu, & actual DVD's put into the computer but not on iTunes? Only thing I can think of is that iTunes needs something completely different, which would stink. lol.
  10. How would I go about finding that out, Exile?
  11. hehe oops! Aspire T180. Thanks sho-dan! I'll check that out next time I am here ; leaving shortly
  12. I just helped my brother set up an iTunes account, and we were trying to watch previews of shows/movies in iTunes but they seem to be laggy & mostly not working at all. I downloaded Speccy to help me determine if/what type of Video card the computer has. None appear to be listed in Speccy. How would I determine what type of a video card is needed or really, how would I determine if the computer has one? The iTunes website says this: DirectX 9.0-compatible video card with 32MB of video RAM; 64MB recommended, among a few other things. YouTube & Hulu work fine, as does watching a DVD on the computer, but I don't know if this is related to this or not. Vista SP2, 32 bit, 1.5 GB RAM, 512 DDR2 memory (whatever that means). Acer Aspire Desktop.
  13. Hello leoliver, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org Yes, you most certainly can burn the MBAM set up to CD and then install it on the computer that is infected. Prior to downloading though, when you choose "save" (when downloading the file) name it XP.com or something similar like that, just in case. Also, since the definitions database will not be fully up-to-date on the setup file, you also need to follow the directions at this link here; http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s...ost&p=49525 under Issue #4. If you need assistance with this portion of it, please let me know, as I have done it before several times and it works great Essentially what you are doing is updating Malwarebytes (to its most recent definitions right before you are ready to burn the CD) on a clean, working computer then copying the rules.ref file from that machine and burning that to CD then replacing the rules.ref on the machine to be cleaned after installing Mbam on the machine to be cleaned. As a side note, please use the "ADD REPLY" button when replying, which is located at the bottom of the page. Thank you and please let me know if this does the trick for you
  14. coconutnut, If I remember correctly, I believe the reason for this is because when doing a right-click manual scan on a file/folder, heuristics are not loaded when a right-click scan happens, so that would be the reason for it not being detected. So if a file is only picked up during the heuristics portion of a scan, if heuristics are not being used during a scan, the file will not be picked up. If I am wrong I am sure a staff member will jump in here.
  15. Thanks for the clarification, M K I am sorry to hear that you are infected More likely than not, the malware is preventing you from finishing the malware removal process with Malwarebytes. Looks like it lets you finish scanning up until you need to click "show results". Please do the following so that an expert can assist you in clean up: Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help. If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you. Also, when replying, please use the "ADD REPLY" button located at the bottom of the page, as this makes the forum easier to read. After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post. Thank you
  16. Hello M K, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org Is there any sort of an error message or does it just shut down? Do you have any reason to believe that you are infected?
  17. heheheh yum! Sometimes adjustments are necessary
  18. Phew! I was a little worried for a sec (no offense to anyone that does like chocolate-covered Grasshoppers - it just is something I'd never want to try). mmmm truffles
  19. Glad that you're not using any P2P apps Have you been infected recently to your knowledge? I actually recommend the following for you, since it seems as though you may be infected (which would explain all the random IP blocks, especially when you don't have your browser or any other applications running): Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. 20. Also Martymfla, are you using any P2P applications? (LimeWire, BitTorrent, Vuze, uTorrent, etc...)?
  21. Malware could have modified this entry. And I do have that file on my system, dated 2004. I found these when searching: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AUTOEXEC.BAT http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/kak.shtml http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/opey.shtml http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor/virusinfo/virus.aspx?id=9589 (Please just READ these and do NOT do any fixes or any other info found in them; the information does NOT necessarily relate to your system or issue). Looks like an older virus/malware infected this legitimate file on older operating systems (such as Windows 95 & Windows 98) but maybe it's re-emerging?
  22. Hello grady, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org Actually, Mbam isn't designed to work in safe mode, you should only do so if it will not run normally. Please read the following so that you may finish the cleaning process, as the infection is blocking you from removing it: We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums. Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. 24. Slify, I was just keeping an eye on your False Positives post; please DO post a FULL developers log as outline here in reply to Nosirrah in your thread: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s...ost&p=11731 Thank you
