  1. Also Malwarebytes uses Internet Explorer settings to update.
  2. Just to add onto this great alert, Please note though if you are a Windows XP x64 SP2 user, there was never a SP3 made for XP x64 so you will continue to receive updates until April 2014 for XP x64 SP2 just like XP SP3 will receive updates until April 2014.
  3. Also, have you been zipping them up? (If they are of a zippable nature, that is).
  4. The funny thing is when I finished reading this part: "There is a very, very tall coconut tree and there are four animals : a lion, a chimpansee, a giraffe and a squirrel. They decide to compete to see who is the fastest to get a banana of the tree." I was like huh, there are no bananas. Then I proceeded to think about it anyway and I picked the chimpanzee because I figured the chimp was better equipped to get up the tree. Does this make me half dense? lol

  6. Hello DiNo29, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org I don't think Kaspersky has anything to do with this issue here. It's always good to add exclusions to your AV though for Malwarebytes though, especially if they are running in realtime together. Unfortunately it seems as though the malware on your system is preventing you from seeing the results of the scan and therefore getting cleaned. Please read the following so that someone can assist you with cleaning your system: Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. Please note that it may take 72 hours/3 days or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 72 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help. If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you. Also, when replying, please use the "ADD REPLY" button located at the bottom of the page, as this makes the forum easier to read. After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post. Thank you
  7. Thanks! I'll check out their website when I have a chance and see if I notice any changes that have been made (prior to update & overwrite). I wouldn't ask you to do any testing for me on this. I know how busy you are! If you do do some testing on HostsMan in the future though I would like to know what the test and the results were though, as I am a curious person, hehe. Thanks again! Edit: In reply to your last post, Wow , awesome, thanks
  8. Hey Exile and Pierre., If you don't mind me jumping in here, Exile, Do you know if HostsMan is compatible with XP x64? Reason I am asking is that even though HostsMan hosts manager only blocks URL's vs IP addresses, since IP blocking does not work on XP x64, at least having a hosts file manager (if he does not already) it would still offer Pierre. additional protection that he doesn't have already.
  9. Ohh, okay, thanks for answering that for me! I just have always been using the merge option for the 6 months or so that I've been using HostsMan, and I haven't had any issues. Ah, that makes perfect sense now! Thanks for explaining it to me. I'll do an update soon and choose "overwrite" then & prior to that take a screen shot of my exclusions JUST in case so I have a copy of them (unless you may know of an easier way to do this?) and see what happens. I didn't realize that database removals would not happen on my machine if I didn't choose overwrite. I thought that merge should be used if you have exclusions and any updates (removals of sites, additions...) would come over no matter what choice was selected (merge/overwrite) . Thanks again
  10. MysteryFCM, If one were to overwrite current hosts, would that remove any/the exclusions that one has made within HostsMan? I have a decent sized list of exclusions in HostsMan and I thought that if I overwrote them (vs merge), that I would lose that list. Also, what do you mean by this? I am a bit confused
  11. Franki, Totally understandable that you would only want to use the MVPS file. However, if that goes well for a while, you might try using the other sources that come with HostsMan as well I use them all and then a couple others too and I have never had an issue updating or with my Hosts file. I always choose "Merge with current hosts". If you don't want to do this its fine, but doing so would offer you more protection with your hosts file
  12. franki, I am late to your thread and I am very glad to see that it's been resolved with gtyhfy's excellent help . As a fellow HostsMan user, I just wanted to ask you, did/do you choose "Merge with current hosts?" (Picture below) If you didn't, this could explain your problem (although I am not positive on this, but it makes sense to me).
  13. That does not sound normal no but I have never run DDS, at least not yet, so I don't know exactly its behavior. Since Comodo popped up at you, please temporarily disable Comodo real-time protection (DO NOT surf the web or download anything other than DSS and being on the forum while the realtime protection is disabled) and then install DDS again. I am not sure why Windows screen saver settings would pop up though. Just do as much or as little as you can do from the directions I gave you and when you are finished post that in your topic and feel free to link back to this post as well as your helper will probably find your first couple of posts in this thread useful.
  14. Just follow the directions I gave you and once someone replies to your post, you and your helper will go from there! Please though do not reply to your own post or bump it asking for help again unless its been at least 72 hours/3 days as that can make it appear that you are already receiving help and can make it take longer for you to be helped.
  15. If there is a specific malicious program that is infecting you, you can also search through the self-help guides located here and see if that will help you get Malwarebytes running and working: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showforum=39 But if nothing you find there works, please do follow the directions I gave you in my post above.
  16. It's not foolproof but renaming the setup file definitely can help Malwarebytes run if the malware is blocking the setup file executable name. Sometimes no matter what you do malware will still block Malwarebytes from running and you should follow the directions below which I will give you: Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help. If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you. After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post. Thank you
  17. I understand I'm paranoid too, believe me! I barely did any web-surfing at all or anything for months after I had a re-direction scare last year. Now I use excellent security software, still surf carefully, only download things that I need to and that I know is safe or am asked to download from someone that I trust, or items from iTunes (that's my music source and program of choice), and keep programs up to date (Adobe Reader, Flash, QuickTime, etc...). Good luck and hopefully you're not infected
  18. I am not sure what would happen if you renamed the program folder (although I would imagine that it would mess up something), let's wait for a staff member to chime in about that. Why would you rename the program folder though?
  19. Well I do want you to know that I was asked by an Expert on this forum to advise you to get your system checked out for any possible malware That's awesome that you are very careful and that you use excellent protection, but unfortunately from time to time things are missed as nothing is 100% so it is possible (even if it is remotely possible) that you are infected. If you do believe it to be a false positive, please post so here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showforum=42 after reading here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=3228 Otherwise, please do get your system checked out as outlined in my previous post.
  20. Hi m41j6 Do you mean to ask if there could be execution problems if you rename the Malwarebytes setup file? If that's what you mean, then no, I've done it myself a few times with no issues. As a side note, when replying, please use the "ADD REPLY" button located at the bottom of the page. Thank you
