  1. I think that remixed pretty much covered it. If you disable automatic updates, be sure to do a manual update at least once a day or once each day that you use the machine. I had issues with automatic updates slowing down/freezing my machine so I have disabled them and now am very good at remembering to update them at least once daily, if using my machine for more than a couple hours, I will update it a second time, etc... I haven't disabled the idle scan yet but I might if I have any more slow issues. Kaspersky runs beautifully on my system now, after some frustrating moments :)
  2. @ Marv1988, I wouldn't recommend Comodo anything, personally. Or AVG, for that matter. I used to use AVG but I don't like it any longer and I no longer recommend it to anyone. If I were using a FREE antivirus, I would go with Avira or MSE, personally. However with XP I would go with Avira if also using Malwarebytes paid as Avira and Mbam get along like a dream. MSE and Mbam paid together on XP can have conflicts, although those can be remedied with exclusions: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?a...&pid=181018 Let me know if you have any questions! For your reference: The following are my recommendations for antivirus protection along with links to downloads for them (free trials for those that require a purchase so you can try them before deciding): Kaspersky (free 30 day trial) The official support forum for this product can be found here Avira Antivir (free for home use) The official support forum for this product can be found here ESET NOD32 (free 30 day trial) The official support forum for this product can be found here Microsoft Security Essentials (free for home use) The official support forum for this product can be found here Avast! 3. Hehe well it served its purpose when I needed it for school... now to see if I can revive it and wipe it when I have some time. Anyway, back on topic
  4. @Pulsar33, XP SP1 has not had any updates to it since 2004. XP SP2 has just ended its support life July 13th, 2010. How old is the laptop?? I have an old XP Pro laptop that was made in 2001 that hasn't been online in about 4 years, it's on SP2 currently and I haven't tried to update it to SP3 yet as it came out a year or two after I stopped using the laptop... and it still has IE6 as well.. however it would be interesting to see if it would work. Mine only has 256 MB of RAM on it, and I've been meaning to completely reformat it and see if I can still use it. I haven't had the time yet though.
  5. @IDKWatMyDisplayNameShoudBe Yes, I know what the thread is originally about. I was just posting the recommendations (originally from Exile360, he has given me permission to use his canned list) in case you were interested or if anyone else who happened across this thread was interested in an AV if they either didn't have one or if they wanted to switch their AV. As for Kaspersky, I love it personally and I think its one of the best AV products out there, and there are at least a few other active members on this board that will say the same, I guarantee it. I personally don't like Comodo, and I will not recommend it to anyone. I don't know much about BitDefender. I can only comment on what I do know about a product. We all have our own opinions, though. Use whatever suits you best after research and seeing what works well on your system As for the list, again, it's a list that Exile360 composed (and again, gave me permission to use) that I agree are excellent choices of AV programs.
  6. Oh my gosh... ahahaha well good thing she noticed it though... that's a rather important cap to have in place and NOT missing...
  7. Hello silverlady, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org Actually, Malwarebytes is NOT an anti-virus (AVG is an example of an antivirus), and you need to be using an anti-virus in addition to Malwarebytes. You do NOT need to disable Malwarebytes while using an AntiVirus program... you should add exclusions though: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?a...&pid=167851 As a side note, please use the "ADD REPLY" button located at the bottom of the page when replying. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to post! 8. If only it were that easy! hehe
  9. Quick scan took about 8 minutes and no items were found. Will do the full scan as soon as I have some time. XP SP3.
  10. hahahahaha seriously? I think I'll have to watch it, just because I find it hilarious and somewhat absurd... lol. I WON'T see it in the theatre though, I don't think. I save the theatre for those movies that I feel are a must-see in the theatre... but I'll rent it, maybe.
  11. Thanks DaleDoc Would you mind if I saved this image for my reference or in case I need it in the future to show someone on the forum here? I am also going to make sure that I take a screen shot from the Vista when I have a chance.
  12. Thanks Deke40 I am quite familiar with the FP forum. Since this is a special scanning engine, I thought that maybe there might be a different place we should post any FP's found from Shuriken. And after reading your post, I went back to Swandog46's first post and realized that he had linked to the forum you linked me to, so thanks I am not fully awake this morning, I guess
  13. awww poor doggy, both for the ostracizing reason and the other one.
  14. I don't really follow teams or know much about them (or follow sports in general at all really), but this still made me chuckle out loud
  15. @Shy You're welcome!! I appreciate your jokes and comics here, but I also appreciate your contributions to the forum and your friendly personality. You're a great contributing member to the forum, and don't you ever feel under-appreciated! As far as the other thread goes, I feel that you are perfectly welcome there, I'm sorry if you don't feel that way I wish I had more time to hunt down the spammers, I just report them as I see them if I come across them in the forum, after trying to make sure they haven't already been reported. I've been really busy lately and a lot on my mind and not much time to myself or anything else, so I'm glad that you all are hunting down the spammah's.
  16. Awesome! Thanks for the news! During beta testing, I always had two hits. I'll run a quick scan later this morning and a full scan when I have time... if FP's are caught, where would you like us to post them?
  17. @DaleDoc Thanks! I didn't have a screenshot. That's (almost) how the icon looks on the Vista machine that I look after (looks a little different on Vista if I am remembering correctly). @FrostyWinnipeg I wouldn't advise dumbing down UAC, personally. If I had W7, I would have it cranked all the way up for maximum security. As a side note, please use the "ADD REPLY" button located at the bottom of the page when replying
  18. Hope I'm not too late!!!! HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
  19. @Marcus hahahah They'd like us to think so, wouldn't they?
  20. Welcome, Anak! There is much to learn around here by reading past threads, and much more to learn by posting yourself if you can't find the answer you are looking for, and also by reading other people's posts! Enjoy your stay here!!!
  21. Thanks for all these comics and jokes you post Shy, you post quite a few of them and I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate it. It's especially nice during or after a stressful day!
  22. Can you show us a screen shot of what it looks like? If it is what I think it is, then most likely its normal. On Vista, there is a four-colored shield on the icons of items that need you to approve the UAC prompts in order to run them successfully. (I hope I am wording this correctly, if I am not, anyone feel free to correct me!) Of course, if you think you may be infected, please follow Firefox's and noknojon's instructions above!
