  1. Hi Malware Destroyer, Okay so are you certain that her computer is totally clean now? If not, you should visit the malware removal forum. If you are sure that the machine is clean, I'll post the link and directions for the cleanup tool and a link to re-download .net framework 1.1 for you in a couple hours. I myself do not fully understand what .net framework is for but please check out this Wikipedia article and then when you download 1.1 again the download page from Microsoft will have more information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework I'll post back in a couple hours with the download link & directions
  2. Hey there malware destroyer, When I get home (it'll be a couple hours) I'll have a .net framework cleanup utility that you can unzip and run... unfortunately I don't have the link handy right now As far as I know, XP comes with 1.1 and I believe that it is needed. Does .net framework 1.1 show in Add/Remove Programs at all? Do you know if shes infected at all before we proceed with the cleanup tool?
  3. Nevermind, a friend of mine gave me the answer A word of warning, though: Do not mess with .Net framework if you don't have to... I just spent a little over 4 hours uninstalling, running the clean up tool, and reinstalling, then getting all the updates for .Net 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 Agh! Last time for me (I hope)... I've done this about two other times before this...
  4. Nice! Thanks for sharing, Porthos
  5. Does anyone know if you have to have .Net framework 3.0 and 3.5 in order for you to have .net framework 2.0? A few times I have installed something that needed 2.0 and each time I had to install 3.0 and 3.5 as well, so I am beginning to think that this is the case. I have uninstalled them each time, only keeping 1.1, but now I am going to install them all for good (we keep ending up needing them lol) but I just wanted to see if anyone knew for sure.
  6. Eh, me either really. Yeah, you're probably right. Why else would they want all of that...
  7. Well I don't know if i'll be much help either (I have used a Logitech webcam in the past) but give me the exact model name, number, etc... for the webcam and I'll see if I can find any information or help regarding drivers, etc... Did it come with an install CD though?
  8. Nice!! I am looking to get a 16 GB one... My 8 GB flash drive isn't cutting it for picture & music backup anymore... almost full.
  9. Oh I know An email address is understandable maybe, but a name and phone number? Ehh.
  10. Thanks I'll keep an eye out for them.
  11. This is one reason why auto run shouldn't even exist, in my opinion. I'm not keen on that either, Marcus. Bleh.
  12. That's a great idea Firefox, but it seems like these days those are hard to find Have you come across any recently for sale?
  13. I'm glad that you're enjoying your day!!! Oo that looks REALLY good, thank you
  14. I am just going to delete all those blank .jpg files then... I can't view them, no sense in them taking up space. Glad to know I am not infected, that's the most important thing Thanks again, have a great day!
  15. Happy Happy Birthday Ade!! I hope it's a wonderful one for you!!
  16. I changed DSCN4648_1.JPG to .exe and tried to open it and it said it was not a valid Win32 application. I tried opening it because the properties gave me no useful information. Then I changed it back to .jpg This one, the first two letters opening it with Notepad was also MZ. As it so happens, this file was right next to another one of the same name but the _1 part was _2. Otherwise the file name was exactly the same, and _2 it was a picture that I had recovered (one of the ones that I was looking for). So as you said, it had to have been Recuva putting the wrong extension or doing something funky to the file. I don't have the time to investigate the others right now, but I'll do that tonight. Thanks again for helping me figure this out
  17. That was my only idea; please wait for AdvancedSetup to reply back here
  18. I haven't experienced that, at least not so far, on the Vista machine that I look after. Under the "settings" tab, then under the subtab "scanner settings", try unchecking "Enabled advanced heuristics engine (heuristics.shuriken). See if you can complete a scan then Did you have trouble with Mbam scanning on Vista prior to August 4th? (That's the date that Shuriken heuristics was released in Malwarebytes).
  19. Shadowwar, I just tried to right click and hit "preview" on the first picture that was hit (since I wasn't able to see it as a thumbnail view in the folder), and Malwarebytes protection module promptly popped up asking me if wanted to ignore or quarantine (with the same extension.mismatch name hit). I hit quarantine, just in case. So no, THESE particular pictures that were hit I cannot actually see a preview of. YES, when I opened one of the culprits with Notepad (DSC02634_1.JPG), the first two bytes/letters say MZ. Then there's some text on errors and a lot of jibber jabber that's not readable. I think I figured out half the puzzle here though. When I was trying recover all these pictures, I picked ones that didn't show a thumbnail to me, just in case they WERE recoverable (although I had a rather large hunch that they wouldn't be) and when I finally had recovered everything I wanted to, I guess the pictures with no thumbnail really were not recoverable, because I saw the generic thumbnail picture for XP on a lot of the pictures - the little orange and red sunset picture. I deleted all of these on the other two folders, this was the middle folder (I did my recovery three times, the last time being EVERYTHING, since I had to stop the first two times before I was done looking at all the pictures that Recuva found). I also can't see a preview of a lot of OTHER pictures, but not all of them were hit, only those 7 in the log were hit. Honestly I don't know why I had even kept these in that folder, I'd thought that I deleted them. Maybe I thought I'd be able to see them somehow after all. So I am just happy to simply delete these pictures since I can't even see them anyway, but I'll wait on your reply before I do anything. If anything, I learned something new I am going to go do something else now while I leave a full scan running - with the folder dragged out on the desktop.
  20. @Haider That I do It's okay though, I always get my messages
  21. haha. I've seen this one before, maybe on here. I'm glad that he felt bad at least, but, he came back too late...
  22. Happy Birthday!! Hope it's a great one
