  1. Hmm. It probably didn't work because you were infected already unfortunately. Unless you mean a paid AV that expired. There are a few great free options out there, such as Avira, MSE, and Avast!. That being said, please read the following and head on over to get your machine cleaned up, and feel free to link back to this post so that your helper can read a little background, also please include any other pertinent information: Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless it's been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help. If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you. After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post. Thank you
  2. Why did you uninstall it? Do you think you may be infected?
  3. Well you really need an antivirus program. How old is this machine and how long has it not had an antivirus?
  4. Hello and welcome Well that is most unfortunate that your computer is really really slow Are you running an antiVIRUS program, first of all?
  5. Well if you've paid attention at least somewhat, he used to use Windows quite frequently, and still does on a VM now and again. Anyway, please just stop. Seriously.
  6. I'll check back in tomorrow and see if I can't find an answer.. gotta go now though!
  7. Next time I've access and some time I'll try to check out one and see if I find the same... might be quite a while though, not sure.
  8. That sure is funky! Well Google Translate was interesting. A sample: And pasting it into a Text Document into OpenOffice (I downloaded it a little while ago, I like it. I don't have Word and can't afford it so I thought I'd try out Open Office) and changing the font to Arial kept it at jibberish. So either it's a tough code to translate or it truly is gibberish. :/ Is that the only log you could find? I am going to turn in soon... catch you on later
  9. I think Marcus was saying that his logfile or what appears to be his logfile is either Chinese or a whole lot of nothing aka jibberish that isn't readable/distinguishable.
  10. No problem Marcus Happy to do it! I was just gonna delete it coz it's so long. I'll leave it up for a few days for now anyway.
  11. Absolutely Be aware; it's pretty long. Let me know when you've seen it and I'll erase it or most of it as its pretty lengthy. From the first link; Finally the link from the details here above;
  12. That's weird. I can copy and paste the text if you'd like Marcus. Thanks for reporting back here too That's so odd... logfiles are helpful, even if nothing is really found, still an event log is nice... Weird...
  13. I'm glad that you were able to figure it out Mona! Agreed! Agreed again
  14. You're welcome! Yes, when you have a chance, let us know! I actually was wondering the same thing, if it had a logfile, in the back of my mind. Definitely a useful thing to have! Cheers
  15. I hope everything will be alright for him Marcus- Give this a look I'm still hunting but this looks good so far http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums...4d-e1bb71f20832 Edit, Here's another link I found: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/forums...19-4FA6774FBD5A
  16. I have used it a little bit since I installed it on the machine of a friend that I was taking a quick look at (she had no AV, just WD), and I've installed it on the machine of another friend of mine as well, so I have a decent amount of experience with it. The interface is very user-friendly but I did not see anywhere for a logfile. Kaspersky has a spot, AVG has a spot, Avira has a spot, and it's been a long time since I've used Norton or McAfee, but I'm sure they must have a spot too. It doesn't seem to me that MSE really has anywhere for a logfile to be... unless it's not accessible from within the program itself, but if it's not accessible form within the program itself, then well that doesn't make much sense. I am going to see if I can't find an answer on this on the Microsoft site, and hopefully someone who knows for sure or not may be able to reply here
  17. Yay, Mbam gear riot I am a big fan of black and red too, a black hoodie (I prefer zip-up) with the red M logo either on the front or the back would be awesome
  18. Apologies for the misunderstanding. You should most certainly have an AV, and I have a list with download links that I recommend that I'd be more than happy to share with you. Now, does Malware Defender have a place were you can exclude files, processes, etc...? Malwarebytes probably just needs to be excluded, and doing so prior to activating the licensed version would probably solve this issue.
  19. Firstly, Malware Defender is a rogue: (just some examples) http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=48774 http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor/pest/pest.aspx?id=453153362 http://home.mcafee.com/VirusInfo/VirusProfile.aspx?key=154257 http://forums.techguy.org/virus-other-malware-removal/811433-malware-defender-2009-a.html So that might explain why you can't install Mbam... how did you acquire Malware Defender?
  20. Yeh I was re-directed to sites.google.com which has always been blocked for me for some reason :/ That's really all the info I have, but I'd be happy to do some investigation if requested, Steven
  21. I am trying to find the link for you, stay tuned (I'll just edit it back into this post). Edit Here you go! Free version is on the left! http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/order.html
  22. Hey Byte King, is PC Tools Still stuck? They actually just discontinued the free one Here is a lengthy thread about the subject that I found in their forums if you want to check it out: http://www.pctools.com/forum/showpost.php?p=233692&postcount=1 What I would recommend is sticking with the firewall that comes with Windows 7 and the Sphinx control. (Exile beat me to it!)
