I am running windows XP and have 512 ram (Dinosaur), I removed java completely a while ago and decided to try it again. I can download it, and it is in Chrome downloads, and in download folder's too. But when I try to "open" it, nothing happens. I gave up, and a few days later, I tried to download and open a memory test, it wouldn't "open" either. It too is in my download folder I googled ".exe files won't open running windows XP" and It brought me to a forum post here. I don't have the same symptoms as the post but the solution offered may solve my problem. Njustice replied to the forum and offered this: Please download EXE (lnk and regfile) Fix for Windows XP and save it to your desktop I run malware bytes regularly and after doing an update and running again It found a (pum highjack.startupmenu) I assume that is a virus, it has been quarantined. But I have no idea how long it has been there or what damage has been done.
