  1. It's very unusual for the free version of a product to offer the degree of support and service that MBAM offers. You guys really do go the extra mile to help. Thank-you - it is much appreciated (especially by novice users like myself). I think that is why this scamming story makes me so mad!
  2. @ hilander I brought it up in comment 6 (though I am not staff, obviously). It was the first thing I thought of when I read the story, especially when he reported some functions were not working anymore. This kind of stuff makes me really angry too.
  3. That's a horrible thing to happen to you! It's horrible for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware too. I'm so pleased that you didn't pay him anything, however occurs to me that if this guy (whoever the heck he was) has been able to work on your computer remotely, then you really may have an issue of malware on your machine - even if you didn't before this. I hope not. I do not really have any expertise or authority to give you advice, but the team here really are awesome if you do have concerns about being infected. Good luck.
  4. Oh I see! Well then, I shall just have to get typing won't I? But hopefully not about having malware or any other problems.... you know what I mean!!
  5. Can't see an edit button - I added those files to my firewall exceptions, rather than to AVG.
  6. Hello MBAM community. I had my first problem with MBAM tonight - an error 732 while updating. I saw this thread: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19811 and took the advice of GT500 & Yardbird and added mbam.exe & mbamgui.exe and we were cooking again. Thank-you (I have a feeling it didn't like me unplugging the ethernet & updating via the wireless. Usually I have no problem doing that, but the browser was running as slow as a snail on just the wireless, so perhaps my connection tonight was a bit dodgy).
  7. I like Firefox best - basically because of NoScript & Adblock Plus, and I find it MUCH easier to configure the browser settings to my preferences. I also appreciate the fact that Mozilla generally releases a patch with a day or two of a vulnerability being discovered. I have IE8 loaded as well, but I never use it. Well, rarely anyway. (Though I think most of my applications use it's engine to update even though I have FF set as my default browser). I also have Safari, which I have never even opened. Safari (along with QuickTime and iTunes) was downloaded automatically (either that or my father just clicked next next next in the set up wizard without reading what he was agreeing to) with the Vista-compatible drivers for my Canon digital camera. Ugh. I seem to have QuickTime as a default application for many things in Firefox, so I haven't un-installed the Bonjour for Windows (or whatever it's called - the Apple stuff).
  8. Wow. What jerks. They've just ensured they'll never get my custom or recommendation. Malwarebytes rules - it's the best protection software I've ever downloaded in terms of performance, ease of use, efficacy and also support (from the helpdesk and this comunity forum).
  9. Ahh. Yes, that makes sense re the hidden driver and how it works. Thanks for the explanation. I've been watching this forum since my computer fix-it person put me on to MBAM and I'd like to say that I'm so impressed with this product, and with the excellent support here in the forums and the helpdesk. Thanks heaps!
  10. Thanks so much for this information. Since I got the update to MBAM version 1.37 I have been getting a warning show up in my Defender history for this file path every time I run a MBAM scan. Defender says it has potentially unwanted behaviour. Why would this be? I find it curious to note that this post is dated Dec 2008, as I didn't have this issue with version 1.35 or 1.36. Thanks again for the work-around
