The 1st paragraph of that link is good, but the 1st lines of the 2nd are
Note that you must perform the in-place upgrade process from within Windows; if your PC can't fully boot to the Windows desktop, this repair guide is not for you.So that method is not good for me either.

Startup repair does not work, I told you this already in post #20-22. I know this is a free service you're providing but you only answer once a day and repeat the same steps we've already tried.
-
there is an option under the system recovery options to restore system from factory default. you can completely restore system to factory defaults or restore operating system and retain user data. I really don't want to lose pictures of my neices which are not backed up anywhere but on this computer. is that going to be possible? I know they're on there but I can't get them to the flash drive. i'll just wait to hear what you say to do.
-
i've got a windows cd, what would you like me to do?
-
I can have the windows 7 disk mailed to be, however since I burned the file the last time to a cd I haven't been able to get the cd drive to open and it's not recognized when I try to open things through notepad. I really need to get pictures and files off this computer so I hope it's not completely lost.
-
how do I save these to the desktop? I've got a usb drive to be recognized, but I can't boot into safemode or anything to get into windows. the only thing I can do is look at things through the notepad. i tried running the file from the command prompt but couldn't get it to work

i can do system restore, however it says no restore points have been made on this computer.

under startup repair details it names the different tests it ran each one says error code = 0x0, At the end where it says root cause found: startup repair has tried several times but stil cannot determine the cause of the problem.

when I click on the problems details it says

Ok, before I try to do things besides what you're writing I want to be clear. I CANNOT boot to safe mode. The only way I can get to notepad is by command prompt. Also flash drives DO NOT WORK on my infected computer. I can run FRST again and write the log by hand but not on a flash drive as you said. Is that what you'd like me to do?
-
no, i was given the computer to fix by a relative that lives over 5 hours away from me.
-
when the main screen comes up there is an option to get into setup (F2) or change boot device (F12) I got into both but I don't see anything for safe mode. It likes to start itself over and over again as well. I seem to be going in the wrong direction here. I had a computer that semi worked before now it's basically a paperweight.
-
This is very frustrating because the infected computer will not recognize flash drives. I burned the file to a cd and ran the frst.exe program but I can't get the text file to post the whole log so I'll try to write what looks important. If I miss something let me know.

I'm trying to help fix a computer for a family member and would like any help. It is extremely slow and will often timeout trying to use programs or freeze up. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried repairing current windows with backing up files hoping it would save the pictures I had on there. I made a boot disk and can look around the computer but can't find the pictures is there a way to find out if they are gone or can they be rescued?
