  1. I tried repairing current windows with backing up files hoping it would save the pictures I had on there. I made a boot disk and can look around the computer but can't find the pictures is there a way to find out if they are gone or can they be rescued?
  2. The 1st paragraph of that link is good, but the 1st lines of the 2nd are So that method is not good for me either.
  3. Startup repair does not work, I told you this already in post #20-22. I know this is a free service you're providing but you only answer once a day and repeat the same steps we've already tried.
  4. there is an option under the system recovery options to restore system from factory default. you can completely restore system to factory defaults or restore operating system and retain user data. I really don't want to lose pictures of my neices which are not backed up anywhere but on this computer. is that going to be possible? I know they're on there but I can't get them to the flash drive. i'll just wait to hear what you say to do.
  5. i've got a windows cd, what would you like me to do?
  6. I can have the windows 7 disk mailed to be, however since I burned the file the last time to a cd I haven't been able to get the cd drive to open and it's not recognized when I try to open things through notepad. I really need to get pictures and files off this computer so I hope it's not completely lost.
  7. how do I save these to the desktop? I've got a usb drive to be recognized, but I can't boot into safemode or anything to get into windows. the only thing I can do is look at things through the notepad. i tried running the file from the command prompt but couldn't get it to work
  8. i can do system restore, however it says no restore points have been made on this computer.
  9. under startup repair details it names the different tests it ran each one says error code = 0x0, At the end where it says root cause found: startup repair has tried several times but stil cannot determine the cause of the problem.
  10. when I click on the problems details it says Problem signature: problem event name: StartupRepairOffline problem signature01: 6.1.7600.16385 problem signature02: 6.1.7600.16385 problem signature03: unknown problem signature04: -1 problem signature05: AutoFailover problem signature06: 9 problem signature07: NoRootCause OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033
  11. i restarted and it still gives me the can't load normally then tries to run startup repair and that says it cannot repair this computer automatically.
  12. 13. Ok, before I try to do things besides what you're writing I want to be clear. I CANNOT boot to safe mode. The only way I can get to notepad is by command prompt. Also flash drives DO NOT WORK on my infected computer. I can run FRST again and write the log by hand but not on a flash drive as you said. Is that what you'd like me to do?
  14. no, i was given the computer to fix by a relative that lives over 5 hours away from me.
  15. when the main screen comes up there is an option to get into setup (F2) or change boot device (F12) I got into both but I don't see anything for safe mode. It likes to start itself over and over again as well. I seem to be going in the wrong direction here. I had a computer that semi worked before now it's basically a paperweight.
