Couldn't check if DMA mode is used because there was nothing listed with "Channel" under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Only one item: AMD SATA Controller. And nothing under properties for that item showed anything like that.
Here's the log:

Here's the log. Thanks.

Thanks again Mr.C. I'm happy to try anything. Attached is the log. (The scan took over an hour, stage 5 took the longest.)
-
Thanks MrC. I did as you suggested and the anti-rootkit tool found nothing on the first scan. Logs attached. Could the slowness simply be the background processes trying to check for updates?
-
Thanks for the response. Here's the log:

Hi,
My son's laptop takes a terribly long time to boot. Neither Avast nor Malwarebytes show any infected items. I wonder whether it is all the startup tasks, looking for software updates. Since I'm clueless I'm concerned about using HijackThis to simply delete some of these items without getting expert advise first. Or it could be related to the controller error, for which this is the wrong forum...
Thanks in advance!
Very slow startup?

Thanks for all the help MrC. Still painfully slow startup. Think I'll reinstall OS and see what happens.
