  1. I go through phases. I left my old computer a "Dell Xeon 470 Workstation" turned on because if I turned it off turnning it on again meant getting down on my hands and knees and crawling under my desk usualy banging my head in the process. The computer I use now is a "Dell GX520" and the tower is much smaller and lighter it sits on my desk with the monitor on top of it so I have been shutting this one down.
  2. Hands in the air for a survey... How many people turn there computers off when not in use and how many people leave them turned on all of the time? And what is your reasoning behind your choice?
  3. I am leaving "Registry Repair from glarysoft.com" on my computer but I will only run it a couple of times a year. I had "Renamed" some of my desktop short cuts and when I ran "Registry Repair" it disabled the short cuts that I had renamed.
  4. Thank You I just ran "Registry Repair from glarysoft.com" and it found and fixed 148 problems The same number that "Windows One Care" found. I guess I will scrap "Registry Mechanic" there was a waste of money.
  5. I just Googled "Glarysoft" and see they have a Free Registry Repair program. Is it better than "Registry Mechanic" ? I have noticed there doesn't seem to be any relationship between how much you pay for a program and how good it is. Some freebies work better than their more expensive competitors.
  6. Thank You for your response... I have "Norton Antivirus" the paid version of "SUPERrantispyware" and the paid version of "Malwarebytes" What I was realy wondering was how "Windows One Care" could find 148 registry problems that "Registry Mechanic" didn't. I was wondering if it is a Gimic and they always find 148 problems just to get you to buy the program. I may try "Windows One Care" when my "Norton" subscription expires but that isn't until December. The only complaint I have with "Registry Mechanic" is to do with my "Windows Messenger" I very rarely use messenger so I removed it from the list of programs that that start automaticaly when I boot my computer. However when I run "Registry Mechanic" it adds "messenger" back to the start up list again......
  7. I have a "Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop" running "Linux Umbutu" How can I check to see what type of "Wireless Card" I have? I know how to check for propertys and hardware in XP and VISTA but not in "Linux Umbutu" Thanks
  8. Is Windows One Care any good? I ran there Free Scan and they didn't find any Spyware or Virus but they did find 148 problems with my registry. Is this a gimic to get me to buy the program or could I realy have 148 problems? I run "Registry Mechanic" every day and according to "Registry Mechanic" my computer is fine.
  9. And may I be the second person to welcome you
  10. Thank You I contemplated eBay I do see some "New" ones listed and I do have an eBay account but sellers generaly will only ship to the address that the account is registered to which would mean shipping it to me in Canada then I would have to ship it back to England again. I think I will get her a TV with a built in DVD player and an external VCR. She doesn't like DVDs and has around 1,000 video tapes
  11. Does any one know of a retailer in Britain that still sells Televisions with built in VCRs ? I live in Canada but my Mother lives in a nursing home in England and has limited space she want's to get a Television with a built in Video Player (VHS Format) I have tried "Currys , Dixons , Argos and the Sony Store" I can't find anyone that sells them anymore. Thanks
  12. I guess if I turn the tower over I could claim the panel is on the bottom Thanks Again
  13. Thank You for the link. The tower is lying flat that is why I said the latch was on the side and the top came off If I had it articulated the way the pictures on the site show the latch would have been on the top and the side would have come off. So reply #1 was correct
  14. oopps .... Too late I didn't de-energized..... But it is humming along nicely now. Thank You!
  15. Thank You for your response. You were slightly off but did send me in the right direction. There is a single latch on the left side near the rear and the lid is hinged it swings up to the right and then lifts off. I bought this critter at a yard sale for $75 last weekend including monitor keyboard and mouse but it only had 512mb of ram I have now upgraded to 4,000mb. Thank you again.
  16. Can any one tell me how to open the tower ona Dell GX520 ??? Thanks
  17. Thank you for your response..... On another forum someone suggested they identified me through my IP address but as any number of computers could share the same IP address I like your answer better. I bet if I put in a new hard drive that would fool them The other possobility was a spy cam in my smoke detector
  18. I instaled the paid version of Malwarebytes on a "Dell Xeon 470 computer" yesterday but due to unrelated computer problems I later removed several programs including Malwarebytes. I then ran cccleaner , window washer , and registry mechanic rebooted and reinstaled the programs I had removed including malwarebytes. When I clicked on "Protection" to register I found out I was already registered It couldn't be a tracking cookie that remembered me because I had cleared all of my cookies......
  19. The only place where I miss a progress bar is in "Windows Defragmentation" With my old Windows XP I use to like watching as my hard drive was defragmented. With the Vista System it doesn't give you any clue as to progress at all.
  20. Mystery Solved. I am using a Dell Xeon 470 Workstation with Two Hard drives. For some reason I was only scanning the hard drive with the least amount of data on it. Thank You !!!
