  1. Dammit!! I am not a happy camper. I actually had switched my internet settings previously to what you advised so that was not an issue. HOWEVER---I downloaded that Online Armor Firewall and now I can't do a damn thing on my computer. (I am using a different computer to communicate to you). If I click on an icon on my desktop, nothing happens-or it disappears into the nether world--I can't right or left click--can't open anything. If I click on the START button nothing happens. If I click on the task tray--nothing happens. WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?? Obviously, downloading that free firewall mucked things up !! I had disabled my existing antivirus while downloading. I guess we should have stopped while we were ahead of the game and everything was working well. Please advise!! All I can say is POOP!!! (but I would really like to use a stronger word!)

  2. Hello, Jeff

I am back at work today and just logged on to the computer that was having the problems and lo and behold--the automatic updates are on!! I guess your computer fairies did the trick!! Everything seems to be running smoothly. Now what can you do about my laundry situation at home--it keeps piling up and I can't get my cats to do it for me--any suggestions there? Wish there was a program for that!! LOL !! Thank you so much for your help.

  3. Hi,

I appreciate all of the comments and replies regarding these issues. This is my first post. I must have some sort of malware or spyware still on my computer as I still cannot turn on my Automatic Updates. Originally when I ran my ESET and Malware Bytes the following showed up: Hijack.start menu, Hijack, exe file, Trojan.exe shell., and PUM.disabled. I thought these had been taken care (i.e removed or quarantined) by both programs. I ran both scans again (Eset and Malware Bytes)and they showed no infections, but I still could not turn on Automatic Updates.

I followed your advice and purchased the PRO version of Malware Bytes and ran the scan. Again, nothing showed as being infected. I went to the next stage you advised, and ran the dds.scr and I have attached the two logs. I will track this and await your reply.

By the way, please settle an argument between my boss and myself. He claims that automatic updates should ALWAYS be turned OFF anyway as it only downloads viruses onto your computer. I claim that is a bunch of hooey and that it should be turned ON always as it is important to get important security patches and updates. Who wins this argument?? Thanks for your help. Jan U.
