Hello all, Really hoping someone will know what this means, and have some sort of a solution. He was using the computer, then left for about an hour, and came back to this message on this screen. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: /WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM Select 'r at the first screen to start repair. I have tried starting the computer in Safe Mode with no luck. I am able to get into Safe Mode, but trying to go to Last Known Configuration still brings up the same screen. I'm not sure if I have the Repair CD for this computer or not. I have a master CD, but i'm not sure if this is the repair CD as the computer is at least 5 or 6 years old. The Laptop is a: Dell Inspiron 6000 Running Windows XP Professional Any help or insight to try and resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot, Tyler Knighton

Hey, Sorry for just getting back, just finished up 2 final exams for summer courses. I just did the standard disk cleanup from start menu, etc. I actually checked all of the options inside disk cleanup, which I'm not sure if i usually do or don't. I believe I normally just check a few of them. Anyhow, after doing so and restarted I had this occur. It's still doing it, and i'm not sure what I should do outside of getting a Windows 7 cd to try and restore to a previous date? Regarding the other iissue that had to deal with some sort of Malware/virus a month back, I ended up doing like 4 or 5 different things all over the web, which eventually enabled me to run sfc scannow and it cleaned up something that was wrong. From there on out, everything was smooth sailing with like 10 or 20 things open at a time for the past month. Sorry for late response, but I hope you have some input! Thanks, Tyler

Hey Dale, Thanks for the quick response! *I don't believe I have the Windows 7 OS disk ... when I bought the computer from Tiger Direct, I was never given one. Everything was completely installed when I received it I suppose. *Yes, this is the same computer I posted about beforehand. Without completing the logs, files, etc. you asked for I was able to completely fix it somehow. Everything has worked absolutely perfect for 3 or 4 weeks now since that post with no issues what so ever. I've had nothing reoccur from those previous symptoms, and have run Malware bytes daily now since then with no issues. Damn DiskCleanup..... haaha Hopefully you may know something to work around this issue Dale. Thanks, Tyler

Hello All, Do computer problems ever end...? haha. Hopefully one of you guys who has experienced something like this can help me out. This is what has happened in sequence. 1st. I ran Disk Cleanup 2nd. Restarted Computer Then when it loads up I get a Windows Error Recovery screen. saying.. Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, StartUp Repair can help dianose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose Start Windows Normally. if not.. etc. choose Launch Start Up Repair ( Recommended ) Anyhow... When I choose the first option ( Launch Start up Repair ) , what happens is, it first says Windows is loading files....... Then it will just turn into a black screen with no cursor and nothing on it. Will stay that way until I force reboot once again. When I choose the second option ( Start Windows Normally ) , when I do this, it moves to the Starting Windows screen that's black with the Microsoft logo, and stays there for a couple minutes until it will eventually Restart itself back to the Windows Error Recovery screen with the 2 options.. These are the two issues, and I have no idea how to start up my computer normally again, which is very frustrating b/c most of my work is on this laptop, and not backed up. I'm really hoping one of you can help me out..! I'm using a Windows 7, 64bit Laptop Things to note, * I cannot restart the computer in safe mode. * I've read about issues very similar to the ones i'm having for almost a day now, and really have no idea what to do. If you can offer any input into fixing this issue I would greatly appreciate it.. Thanks a bunch, Tyler

Hello all, First off, let me say after reading through these forums I can say I have learned a bunch. There are a bunch of insightful posts here, and it's always nice to be able to learn some new things you had no idea about before. Anyhow... lets see if some of you brilliant people can help me out with this problem I'm having! Hopefully you can. *6/15 - Was watching a Youtube video, and out of no where my computer beeped and froze completely. After turning it back on, I guess I could just tell something was not right. *6/16 - After playing around with it the following day, I noticed how slow it became, and how everything began to freeze and show a "Not Responding" note on browsers and other programs. This started to get incredibly frustrating, as I've tried to take every precaution to protect my computer from malware/viruses etc. So to go from a lightning fast cpu with 20 applications open to being able to do nothing definitely sucks.... especially when you work from home on your computer.. ha * Anyway, this continued on and on until yesterday, where I decided to read everything I possibly could on the net associated with this matter. I was determined to get this fixed so I could get back to working on this cpu instead of reformatting or buying a new one. First - I Uninstalled completely - Malwarebytes (which I have used for the past year with great success) / Avast ( also have used for the past year along with Malwarebytes) / Spybot Search and Destroy Next - I removed every single thing I had remaining from Startup Programs in msconfig Next - I tried to run SFC scannow in cmd prompt and had no luck ( yes ran as administrator). Then I tried to run a Chkdsk scan and 4 of 5 the way through I was presented with a blue screen that I didn't have a chance to read in depth before it was gone. * Ps. Before Uninstalling anything, I tried running Malwarebytes/spybot/avast over 20 times, but each of them froze every time. Next - Since Chkdsk didn't work either, I decided to run /sfc scannow again and oddly enough, this time it worked. It did correct some corrupted files as it said when finishing. After this worked, I tried to run Chkdsk again but same blue screen. After doing all of this, I rebooted and somehow my computer was back to its normal self but with no protection whatsoever. Everything was working well with no "Not Responding" and freezing. Although everything was well, I tried reinstalling Malwarebytes after reading all the threads here on certain procedures. I noticed after installing Malwarebytes again correctly, some programs on my cpu did not want to open and would freeze again. Although everything associated with Firefox/browsing was still completely fine until I would try and run Malwarebytes or even open iTunes for example. Slow/Freeze/Hang again when i tried to open certain applications. * I was able to perform a quick scan but have tried Performing a Full Scan over 10 times now and it always Freezes up my computer and am forced to force shutdown. Everytime I run the scan it seems to hang up on something associated with Microsoft Silverlight if that helps. Anyways, I decided to uninstall the program again completely so I could actually use all the applications on my CPU. Again everything was working fine. So here I am, with no Antivirus/ and no Malware/spyware protection but with a working computer again thats faster than it was before all these issues that arised a week ago. What to do ? I know I can't continue to use the cpu like this or else I'm sure I will encounter something worse to infect my computer in the near future. * I Really hope some of the expert computer guys can help me solve this issue, and I really appreciate it if you took the time to read all the problems I'm having atm with this computer. Thanks a lot, Tyler
