  1. This is something interesting that happened to me today.

Every first and third Saturday of the month, some people in Dallas have an event called the Sidewalk Sale (http://www.sidewalksale.com/). Here people buy and sell computer items. Most vendors get their items from OEM's or surpluses. One particular vendor was selling some software. Normally I wouldn't even care if someone was selling Dell Recovery disks, but a big red "M" caught my eye.

Sure enough, in cheap-looking letters, said "Malwarebytes' Malware Remover". I wish I had a picture of it, but it was very obvious in its fakeness. I made a quick drawing in PDN of the basic elements of the design:

The cover was most likely burned using Lightscribe and the actual disk said CD-R on the inside circle. (It is worth mentioning that this person was also selling copies of Filezilla, Ubuntu, Windows 7 RC, and various other utilities).

As a conscious person, I asked the guy if the version he was selling was free or paid. He replied, "Yes it's free, but not here". Clearly this person isn't a reseller, but a full crook.

My question to you guys is: Have you seen anything like this before?

  2. Folks. MalwareBytes Corp does not encourage nor do we recommend you do this, unless you have extensive experience in malware research and are willing to take a chance on hosing your current system configuration. In other words, please do not try this at home. We must insist on that. :(

  3. Oh Lord! Do I need help. One of the computers at work has Win Pc Defender on it. It constantly pops up windows and wants me to install (and pay for) it's program remove viruses. I've dealt with a similar kind of thing a few months ago and Malwarebyte's Anti Malware worked great to remove it. BUT, this time, Winpc Defender seems to be blocking Anti Malware from running. Frankly, i don't even know if it was able to install correctly, as that process looked to also lock up a the end. I tried to reboot XP into safe mode and run it from there but that didn't work either. I tried to run anti malware from a flash drive instead, and that didn't work. How do I get rid of this darm thing? Can anyone help?

    :)

    :(

I had that once. I had to reformat my computer. It disabled Task Manager and didn't allow programs to run. If you figure out a way to get rid of it without reformatting, please tell.
