  1. i'll let you if i don't locate as well so you're not left wondering...thanks again!
  2. Just don't think it came with one, if that makes any sense it was a direct donation from company, but then again, i'm just going by what pastor says he has
  3. ok, i will keep trying to hunt down CD, shop wanted almost half cost of new one just to look at it thank you for taking time to assist
  4. sorry first time was in safe mode as well does it matter if i login as administrator or user?
  5. just tried in safe mode with command prompt, same deal-eo, cursor just blinks and pointer now frozen
  6. I'm at the church trying this out again. However, in my haste i did not notice that laptop does not have ports for a non-USB keyboard and mouse. I believe i get freeze whenever I hit "enter" particularly after I've gotten the services and controller app error. Does that ring any bells?
  7. Keyboard and mouse I tried to use did not work with laptop I believe I got the USB ports turned on had to do a lot of house fixing this past couple weeks so I was going to spend some time on it this weekend at church
  8. Still trying to figure this out just haven't had a large enough window of time
  9. have to go find one, all keyboards i have now are either USB or wireless and not working with laptop (just took old keyboard/mouse to dump last week...) Would this prob be related to the "Controller and Services" error?
  10. Ok, cursor/keyboard freezes when i type. In safe mode w/networking as admin or user, the run dialog box just blinks. Even in safe mode w/command, same freeze up when start typing. I left machine on for a good 3 hours and sure enough when I came back it was still stuck at MSDOS window and what I had tried to type in still hadn't shown up.
  11. ok will give it a shot a let you know how it goes thank you for your patience
  12. Does it matter that laptop was never connected to my Internet connection? Router is working fine for other machines in the house, through the wireless.
  13. nope i've tried to set up wireless and it just freezes and doesn't read when hard wired with ethernet either
  14. I've run a couple. Last ones find no issues. Should I give it a shot again?
  15. I tried as admin in safe mode with networking and then was told there were no restore points available. I'm pretty sure I saved a point when I removed the infections...????
  16. Can not turn system restore back on: "encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or more drives. Please restart your machine."
  17. I'm sorry, I never received notification that this thread was up, let alone that you had posted a response. I also posted in another forum. Should I continue here as well? MBAM log mentioned adware.Asksbar as one of found infections. (I thought I had saved to a cd before laptop's drive stopped working but can't locate.) I am posting link to other post so you can advise on how best to proceed. Thanks. http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=110989&pid=559477&st=0entry559477
  18. Good afternoon. I am trying to save our pastor's ThinkPad R50 that was hit by a worm; research/work i've done points to sasser or someting similar. I was able to run Malware and find and remove a lot of infections *adware.askSBAR). However, computer is still getting the errors, which I am assuming is because even though worm gone, whatever it changed is still in effect. System Shutdown: ....initiated by nt authority/system. Time before shutdown (countdown starts) Services and controller app: "has encountered an issue and is shutting down" Other errors (unrelated?) Symantec Email Proxy: can't scan your email ...not config Here's what's holding me up now: 1. Laptop will not connect to Internet through ethernet or wireless, so I can't update straight to machine. 2. CD drive has stopped working, diagnostic says driver not installed. 3. USB ports not working. 4. Laptop freezes when I try to type: for e.g. trying to use command prompt; entering a name and passkey while setting up wireless network; using search function. Also VERY long pauses after clicks. 5. No system disks (XP, etc.) available. If they exist they're in another state... Laptop works "better" in safe mode with networking; meaning errors don't come up but full functionality still missing (typing in fields and keybord freezes). In regular mode, I work around shutdown by setting clock ahead. Couple times it didn't shutdown right away but (I believe) caused to the laptop to slow to a crawl. Maybe there is hope and a relatively simple (wink, wink) few steps will take me to the finish line. And assistance would be appreciated. modi.K
  19. Hello. I thought i finally had this licked after I ran Malware removal software and it found issues, which i thought i deleted. Still getting the same issues and all the steps to fix require using command line, or run, or typing information in a field. Thing is whenever i do, computer freezes, at least keyboard does. I can still clock moving and screen blinks but can't type. Even in safe mode. What in the HECK do i do to now if I can't type! One of the instructions is to use MSCONFIG but whenever I start to type it in it run it comes to a halt. Help anybody? I am trying to get an IBM r50 thinkpad back with windoxs xp (1985-2001) back up and running. I deduced that it has worm which caused initial problems, now trying to repair whatever worm screwed up.
