I was just looking at your previous reply and have the following comments to make: 1) No Self Protection was in fact un-ticked so should not have been working 2) It's OK INSTALLING MBAM from an Administrator account but when the programme sees an update and the running account is NOT an administrator, it should request administrator authority which at present it doesn't. It just fails, this is not a good advert for the programme and needs looking into ASAP!! Other programmes manage to update without problem so why not MBAM?? Now it's working, I'll use Cleaner to remove the current version before updating, it's the only way to avoid problems!

I have just finished re-installing MBAM after using MBAM Cleaner and checking registry - two comments: 1) Cleaner did NOT totally remove all MBAM entries in registry but that seems to be the norm for most uninstallers 2) On starting up and activating MBAM all now works OK. This leads to the suggestion that, as with a number of other programmes, the installer totally removes the old version, restarts the computer and then installs the new version. This would be welcomed by many of your customers especially those who use the standard user account not the administrator account for safety reasons.

Having just updated, or at least tried to, MBAM to v2.0.2.1012, I have a number of suggestions: 1) Remember sensible users use a standard user account NOT an administrator account. I was unable to update the previous working version due to not being an Administrator and there was NO UAC for Administrator authority. Updates should request an Admin password not fail if the account is a standard user. 2) The desktop icon cannot be modified in any way, e.g. setting it to 'run as administrator' fails even when the administrator password which Windows requests has been entered. As update needs an Admin account why can this setting be changed?? 3) Due to 1) above, I had to download a 'trial version' from Malwarebytes, run it as administrator and then found that even though it was still registered it would not allow Real Time Protection, Malware Protection or Malicious Website Protection. As this is why the programme is needed why does updating cause so many problems?????? I suggest that the desktop icon should have 'Run as Administrator' enable as a matter of course, that MBAM update requests, and responds to, Administrator Password (UAC), that updates are downloaded to the PC's Download folder for users to execute in their own time and these to request UAC permission before execution. I am currently going to totally remove MBAM, check registry for any leftovers, then reload the "update" and hope that it works as it should with real time protection etc. working correctly!

That's it! My HDD is Bitlocker encrypted.

Forgot to add mbamservice.exe now shows 0.5% CPU usage so this version does seem to have cured the excessive CPU usage I had before with 2.0.0.1000

I followed the procedures above and noticed that the version has changed to 2.0.0.1004! After installation I clicked the anti-rootkit box in 'Detection & Protection' then ran the update and allowed MBAM to scan the laptop. The scan completed OK but an error box came up saying that 'MBAM was unable to load the Ant-Rootkit Driver Error Code: 20026 Do you want to continue the scan without ant-rootkit support?' I then ran a Hyper scan and received two differing messages when it completed - 1. it found an error; 2. clicking on the error, it vanished and said no errors found; 3. the anti-rootkit driver error again. Hi, I updated MBAM, allowed it to update and run a scan to completion (in fact I ran two - the initial one and a hyper scan. Both ran to completion). I immediately noticed that my laptop seemed slow but didn't think anything more until this morning when I started it up. The laptop gave the impression of running in treacle, so I opened Process Explorer to check what was taking CPU cycles and found that mbamservice.exe was taking over 40%, not just short term but continuously. I posted onto the forum, then removed v2 and re-installed v1.75 and checked using Process Explorer and this time mbamservice.exe showed 0.2%. From this result, I would, as I stated above, suspect mbamservice.exe of having some kind of CPU usage problem.

I have uninstalled v2.0.0.1000 and re-installed v1.75.0.1300 and, using Process Explorer, checked the CPU usage of mbamservice.exe. Instead of 40%+ it is now averaging 0.2%! Checking the performance graph, CPU usage doesn't even show on the display, it's too low to register. This does suggest problems with v2.0.0.1000's mbamservice.exe

Why does the mbamservice.exe need to take 40%+ of CPU cycles? Having just installed MBAM v2.0.0.1000, I noticed that my laptop was running like it was in treacle. Using Process Explorer, I found that mbamservice.exe was taking as much processor time as system idle and not just for a short period, MOST of the time. My i7 processor was showing that it was running at full boost, 3.06GHz also most of the time. Why the extreme CPU usage? Surely it shouldn't need this much processing time! 1.75.0.1300 worked OK, v2.0.0.1000 seems to be a beta that needs more work urgently. My system: Alienware M15x, i7 620M CPU, 8Gb RAM, Radeon HD 6570

This evening after booting Win7 x64 MBAM came up with the same error message as before, see attachment. I followed the procedures above again and reloaded 1.60.0.180 - this time it updated correctly and the scanner gui started, which it didn't before. Have reset the ignored files and all appears OK. I have also noted that MBAMService set itself to Automatic (Delayed) and have reset this to Automatic. Still awaiting results of checks on my friends Win XP system problem, I hope that MBAM is not the cause of his PC failing to restart correctly after running MBAM free in Safe Mode.

Followed instructions and exactly the same problems after re-installation! 1.60.0.1800 causes MBAM to not start properly, unable to open scan gui and on restart MBAM service says there is a problem and closes. Then unable to do anything with MBAM except uninstall it. Back to using 1.51.2.1300, which works perfectly! FAO - using MBAM Pro. I also suspect this problem with Windows XP caused a friend of mine's PC to fail to start correctly after he loaded the free version, which worked in Safe Mode but would not let him get past the Windows start-up screen returning him to reboot continuously. This is still being investigated. Why is 1.60.0.1800 causing so many problems? MBAM has always been excellent and has worked without problems until now.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and, as with others 1.51.2.1300 works perfectly. When I downloaded 1.60.0.1800 the install ran perfectly, it updated it's database and should then have opened the scan module, nothing happened. I then restarted Windows, a warning displayed saying that MBAM Services had an error and shut down. Double clicking on the icon on desktop showed disk activity but Malwarebytes failed to display. I then uninstalled 1.60.0.180, ran CCleaner and, after reboot, checked registry for any Malwarebyte entry and removed them. I then tried reloading 1.60.0.180 and exactly the same problems occurred. I uninstalled yet again and then re-intalled 1.51.2.1300, all running OK, no problems whatever. What is wrong with 1.60.0.1800? This version is more like an alpha test version with users as testers. Please sort it out ASAP!!!!
