  1. Thanks very much for the additional info DD1! The version I'm using is 3.0.0.10004. The problem was just with the icon being gray and the program would not load. About an hour ago, I clicked on the gray icon again to open the PSI program - lo and behold...it's working again, and the icon is back to its usual green color! Problem resolved. (Though I have no idea HOW it resolved). Much obliged again for your time and help with this issue! EE
  2. Hi DD1 and thanks for getting back with me! I did try uninstalling then re-installing the program. Unfortunately the problem persists. Cheers! EE
  3. Good morning everyone, The Secunia PSI program that's been on my computer for a few years now has been displaying a gray icon in the Taskbar Notification area for 3 days now. I've restarted the computer 4 times and still the icon will not return to the green color. All programs on this computer are up-to-date, including all Windows updates. I've also attempted to post in the PSI Forum several times, but there is apparently some problem there. I have no trouble logging-in to my account and creating the post. But, when I click on the [SUBMIT] button, it displays a dialog box telling me to select a forum to post in, despite the fact I was already in the PSI Forum when I clicked on the "Create a new thread" button. I also do not see any place on the screen to select a forum. In addition, I sent an inquiry to Secunia Support. All I got back was some email advertisement for their CSI program. (I'm guessing they only reply to paying customers). My question: Is there some way to resolve this issue? Thank you for your time and any help! EE
  4. (For DD1): Thank you for your thoughtfulness. I do have personal data backed-up on two different USB flash drives + I have complete system images (made twice a week) stored on a 1 TB external WD My Passport hard drive, using the Win 7 backup utility. This computer was given to me by a former work associate back in 2012. There was only a 60-day warranty on it then. Paid support is not an option, unfortunately, as I subsist one month to the next upon a very limited disability comp. Will look into that other BIOS suggestion you mentioned. (For David): I'm still befuddled. I've attached a screenshot of what is shown after downloading/unzipping that Dell Diagnostic utility on my computer HDD, and clicking on that DDDP.exe file (Run as Administrator). I then tried the first option shown of creating a bootable USB flash drive. Files are now shown on that flash drive. Clicking on the aforementioned .exe file on the flash drive only generates the same image as shown below again. I then clicked on the "Finished creating the diagnostic media" option. Then I once again clicked on the DDDP.exe file, and the same image is shown yet again. Thanks again for trying to help! I'm just not understanding this stuff...sorry. EE
  5. Thanks very much David, DD1 and FF for your respective help! I restarted the computer, pressing the <F12> key, then selected "DIAGNOSTICS" from the menu shown on the screen. The PSA memory test began to run for about 15 minutes or so, and NO errors were shown. The message on the screen then asked if I wanted to continue with further memory testing, and I clicked NO, and the computer then began booting up normally, as usual. Also, there is NO diagnostic partition on this refurbished machine either. As for trying to utilize that 32-bit diagnostic tool......I seem to be unable to even begin to understand any of it. Unfortunately, age and deteriorating health have taken a severe toll on me and I'm just not able to grasp an understanding of a lot of things I once could. At this point, I will just leave things the way they are and hope the powering-on problem doesn't occur again. Again, I appreciate all your help! EE
  6. Hi David and thanks for the link. Question: On the Dell site, it indicates the diagnostic is for Win XP/Vista 32-bit computers. Will it work on this Win 7 64 bit machine? Thanks. EE
  7. Good morning everyone, Computer specs shown in signature line below. Description of problem: When I pushed the power button (and held it down for 3 seconds) to turn on the computer this morning, it "appeared" to start up, but within 5 seconds, it shut off. On the 4th attempt, the machine finally booted up and I was able to log-on. This computer is a refurbished computer given to me 2 years ago. My question(s): 1. Is the above problem indicative the computer is about to become completely inoperable, or is there some other explanation? 2. Any suggestions for addressing this problem at this point? Thanks very much for your time, review, and any feedback. EE
  8. +3! The steps provided by the OP worked well. HOWEVER, following the scan completion, and return to the Dashboard screen, it AND the MBAM icon in the Taskbar Notification area still indicated Malicious Website Protection was not enabled. After right-clicking on the Taskbar MBAM icon and clicking on the aforementioned feature to enable it, MBAM finally returned to normal. Regards everyone, EE
  9. Much obliged for the additional info, FF! EE
  10. Thanks very much for the info, DD1! After reading your recommendations and the info at the links you provided...I'll just wait until some fix is released and then re-download/install CCleaner again. [EDIT @ 12:48 p.m.]: Much obliged also to you, Andy, for providing the v4.17 to use in the interim! Cheers! EE
  11. Good morning and much obliged Mike for the heads-up! Please pardon my lack of adequate understanding...but, I have a couple of questions: 1. Could someone explain the significance of the "system monitoring" feature in this new version of CCleaner, and any concerns I should have about it? 2. I had already downloaded this new version (although I have not installed it yet), but, HAVE already uninstalled the previous version (4.17). Is there a way to re-install version 4.17? I've checked the Piriform site and can find no way to do this. Clicking on the [download] link for version 4.17 only downloads the new version, 4.18. I ask the above questions so I don't end up making some major blunder and creating problems for my computer. Thank you for your time and any information! EE
  12. Cute Michael! Here's a "sequel" to your, "One word: Flatulence!". * After passing gas...quickly turn and stare, with a disdained look, at the person next to you, then move away from them while continuing to stare.
  13. Thanks for the info, David. "Muddy the waters"...indeed! From what I can read on Secunia's site, it seems no one really has a viable solution to this issue, other than suggesting Secunia's staff and/or MS do something about the problem. Guess I'll just leave it the way it is for now. (I've included a screenshot of the SYSWOW64 file listing on my computer. It clearly shows msxml6 & msxml6r present). On a different note, I wonder why Secunia's site is the ONLY site I've ever visited where there is no way to scroll the screen to the right or left. Even when I enlarge the font so I can read it, there is still no scroll bar shown. Tired of pulling my hair out. Regards, EE
  14. Hi David, Here's the screenshot you asked for. Hope it helps and thanks for your reply! EE
  15. Much obliged for the info, CWB. I'll head over to either MS or maybe that sevenforums site to see if there's anything about this issue. EE
  16. Morning CWB, Thanks again for the follow-up info! I checked the location you mentioned and the screenshot attached shows what I found. The "Last modified" date shows 3/26/2014. This one still does not show up in Programs & Features, even after 2 restarts and 2 cold boots. I take it, this means the msxml v6 is already installed on this computer? Cheers! EE
  17. Thanks very much for the info, Mike. When I reviewed the info there, it is showing essentially the same info as the link I previously went to. It lists the msxml v 6.0 as being available for Win XP and Windows Server 2003, but not Win 7. So, I'll just continue with the v 4 that's already on this machine for now and just hope some unexpected problem doesn't arise. Best regards, EE
  18. Hi again CWB, For some reason, the msxml 6.0 file will not install on this machine. It downloads from the website fine, and after right-clicking on it, then on "Install", a box opens stating the installation was successful. However, when I check the Programs and Features listing, it does not show msxml 6.0. It still displays what is shown in my earlier screenshot. When I did a Google search and looked at the info shown at the link below (about 1/3rd down the page), it is not showing Win 7 as being supported for msxml 6.0. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973686 I don't seem to be able to find anything the least bit helpful in my search results to explain this situation. My Windows Update function is still set to auto-update, and the last check for updates was around 3 a.m this morning. I've never had any real issues with updates not being performed. At this point, I'll just wait and see if any problems actually arise. Thanks again. EE
  19. Much obliged for the additional info, CWB! EE
  20. Hi CWB and thanks very much for your help! The one remaining question I have is how do I determine which of the files shown in the attached screenshot, to actually download? Many thanks! EE
  21. Good morning everyone, Secunia is saying my MSXML needs to be updated. After clicking on the "Click to update" link, I am taken to the Microsoft page shown at: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3988&751be11f-ede8-5a0c-058c-2ee190a24fa6=True&fa43d42b-25b5-4a42-fe9b-1634f450f5ee=True After clicking on the [DOWNLOAD] button on the page, it takes me to yet another page. I have read and re-read everything on the page and cannot for the life of me, understand any of it. I have NO idea WHAT to even select on this page. I would have thought this type of update would come through the automatic Windows Update function. My question: Can anyone please enlighten me as to just HOW to accomplish this supposed update I need? I have attached a screenshot of the current MS Programs displayed in the Control Panel > Programs & Features. Thank you for your time and any help! EE
  22. Good morning everyone, (Referring to the attached screenshot of my MBAM Protection Log) On May 31st, there were multiple inbound blocks made by MBAM for traffic originating from IP address: 121.10.130.9. (As noted...all the blocks occurred in rapid succession). I'm reasonably certain I was offline at the time these blocks occurred, as I always turn off my monitor when not using the computer...and hence, would not have seen any popup generated by MBAM. In the Protection Log screenshot, I've placed a red arrow above the number "0", which appears right after the IP address. My question: What does the "0" refer to? (I also performed quick scans with MBAM, Outpost, & SAS). No issues were found. Going back in the Protection Logs 10 days does not show any blocks, and no further blocks have been seen since this occurrence on May 31st. Thank you for your time and any enlightenment! (Apologies for the unusually large size of the screenshot. My "expertise" with using MS Paint leaves something to be desired). EE
