  1. New user group has been added - honaray members.

You must have 50 posts to join this group. I felt this group was necessary to distinguish those that contribute tons to the Malwarebytes community. Thanks for all of your help!

Can I belong to the ornery members group?

Print this out then use a pencil and check off each item when completed.

Insure you install WinXP Service Pack 2 and ALL Critical Updates.

In Internet Explorer go to Tools then Windows Update.

NEVER open an email attachment from anybody even your friends unless you verbally verify that they intentionally sent it.

Also, do not click on any site presented in an Instant Message ( IM )as it is most likely infected with a virus/worm/trojan.

Keep your anti virus definitions up to date daily and also after a reboot as the malware infectors are out to infect your system as soon as they are able as it means big $$$ to them in pay-per-click pop up ads and phishing scams to get your banking or credit card information so that they can abscond with the money to be deposited in an Eastern European or Asian bank to pay for their BMWs

Download AVG Anti-Spyware then install it.

    http://www.ewido.net/en/download

Note: This is a 30 day trial of the program.

Once the setup is complete you will need to run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.

On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.

Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.

Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".

Under "Reports" select "Automatically generate report after every scan"

Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:

Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.

Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".

AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.

Once the scan is complete do the following:

If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"

Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.

Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).

Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan.

Download CCleaner then install it then run it to have it clean out all it finds.

    http://www.ccleaner.com

Its a good tool to clean out the Temp Folders and should be run every month to clean out the junk.

    Reboot into Safe Mode

Run CCleaner then defrag to speed up hard disk access.

    Download and install HijackThis:

Get V1.99.1 and post a new log here in your topic.

    http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html

In case something goes wrong and you need to backup then create a Folder for HijackThis as you do not want the HijackThis logs in the Temp Folder nor all over your Desktop.

Depress the Windows key + E to start Windows Explorer then navigate to the hard drive then right click then select New then Folder then name it HJT.

    Move HijackThis into this folder.

Download then install SpywareBlaster and keep it up to date at least once per month.

Install SiteAdvisor as it shows an an indicator of bad sites you are visiting:

    http://www.siteadvisor.com

Install MVPS HOSTS file to block ad tracking cookies and many malware sites:

    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Keep it up to date at least once per month.

Install ALL prevention protection recommended and keep them updated regularly by reading the announcements at Calendar of Updates.

Help your family and friends be better protected on this malware infested Internet.

  5. Please download the trial version of ewido anti-malware from here:

    http://www.ewido.net/en/download

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions after you install it then update the definitions to the newest files.

Do NOT run a scan yet.

    * Boot into Safe Mode

    * Click on ewidow scanner

    * Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.

    * While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

    * When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.

*Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report

    * Click Save report.

    * Save the report .txt file to your desktop.

    * Post the log here in your topic
