Possible False Positive on Avast Instup.dll

My install of Avast has been trying to update in the last hour and Mbam keeps pointing out this specific dll file as a Trojan. However Virus Total is saying it's probably safe and only MBAM is coming up with a detection.

Please update to database v2016.01.02.01 - this has the revised rules to fix the f/p.

i had the same problem. Then via the Trojan.agent,upx, Avast blocked all network connectivity. I am in the process of removing the Trojan after which I will remove Avast in Safe Mode.

There is no reason to uninstall Avast.. the above detection was a false positive which means for a short time, we were detecting a file we should not have been. The file is a legit part of Avast.

 

If you have already removed Avast, make sure your MBAM is up to date & you can re-install Avast again. You should be OK after that.
