Malwarebytes broken

Recommended Posts

At the weekend, while updating malwarebytes 2.1.6.1022 (free version) , I was advised that there was a program update which I attempted to install. On completion (?), message read " the application failed to initialise properly (0XC000001d)

Since then, I have tried to reinstall 2.1.6.1022, 2.1.8.1057 without any success. Messages are either as above or "Malwarebytes has encountered a problem and needs to close".

Installations have been preceded by running the malwarebytes cleaning tool. Clean and install with AV and firewall disabled. OS is XP sp3.

No history of any problems with Malwarebytes over many years.

Your help would be much appreciated

Hello qwbo and :welcome:
Please begin here:

  • Please read the topic Diagnostic Logs and then individually ATTACH the 3 requested logs in your next reply to this thread only.
  • The 3 files, from Step 1, to be individually ATTACHED from your desktop are CheckResults.txt, FRST.txt and Addition.txt. Please do not edit, Zip or Copy and Paste them into a reply. Please do not alter, any FRST categories as they are pre-configured for these forums.

Thank You. :)

Hello qwbo:

The requested files were not present in your post #3.

How to attach:

  • In the lower-right corner of the "Reply to this topic" Web Form's message box, single left-click the More Reply Options button. It's just to the right of Post.
  • At the bottom of the new window, find the Attach Files aids.
  • Single left-click the Choose Files... button (lower-left, just to the right of the vertical paper clip image).
  • In the next window that opens, navigate to the file you are requested to attach.
  • Left double-click the file to select it. This step may take a variable amount of time to complete.
  • Near the right side of the pane, single left-click the Add to Post button.
  • Repeat steps 3 through 6 for any additionally requested files.
  • Single left-click Add Reply to send the reply message with your attached file(s).

Thank you. :)

Hello,

Have similar problem and have had to uninstall Malwarebytes many times on 1 PC with XP Pro SP3.  No issues with any Malwarebytes program in the past.

Do you recommend that we uninstall antivirus or any other non active security program before installing this new version?

[NOTE: Other PCs that we helped to install Malwarebytes on. 1 was XP Home Prem. SP3, and other was Win7 Home Prem. SP1 were successful.]

Look forward to your reply,

lan

Hello @lansharkbyte:

We are disappointed to read your system is having issues. Each computer is unique. Problems that seem "the same" most often are not.

The same is true for solutions. They most often need to be individualized to your unique system.

It is less confusing for everyone if we adhere to this subforum's "one user per topic" policy.
Please start a NEW, and SEPARATE topic by left-clicking this >>cjfj.png<< button now.
Staffers, experts, and helpers will be able to more easily provide both you, and the OP/Topic Starter, with individualized assistance to get you both up and running.

Thank you always for your patience and understanding. :)

Hello qwbo:

I recommend following the advice from the topic: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and have one of the Malware Removal Experts assist you with your issue.

If, as recommended, you do open a topic in Malware Removal Help, please make reference to this thread.

If you would like to get off to a very fast start, the Malware Removal Experts would appreciate it if you would also Copy and Paste (not attach) both the FRST.txt and the Addition.txt output diagnostic reports from only Log Set 1 into your new topic. Please do not tick, nor untick, any pre-configured FRST categories.

Thank you.
