Hello Mr. C,

First off, thank you for your time and assistance. The reason I was sent here by Advanced Setup is because I experienced strange musical tones that seemed to point at a problem that should be addressed. Also, for a time I lost my taskbar functions such as the Start button below the desktop and the minimize, maximize, and close windows above, rendering the machine useless. The buttons cane back. There has to be a reason my machine is having these difficulties.

For some reason I don't think we are on the same page. I have twice done a MB threat scan with no threats found. I did the RogueKiller as well and was instructed not to fix anything. If there is result you need me to post from the RK, please do tell me.

You can attach the logs if they're too long:

    replyer1.jpg

    Then...........

    Please download and run ComboFix.

The most important things to remember when running it is to disable all your malware programs and run Combofix from your desktop.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/dl/12/ <---ComboFix direct download

Please make sure you click download buttons that look similar to this, not "sponsored ad links":

    bleep-crop.jpg

Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Information on disabling your malware programs can be found Here.

Make sure you run ComboFix from your desktop.

Give it at least 30-45 minutes to finish if needed.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

    ---------->NOTE<----------

If you get the message Illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion after you run ComboFix....please reboot the computer, this should resolve the problem. You may have to do this several times if needed.

Please permanently disable Windows Defender, you have AVAST running and having two anti-virus programs running on a system only causes poor performance, conflicts and spotty protection.

Btw, upon opening a window to my mail page, I noticed that my Host file was not working because the files somehow got changed and the banner ads were back.

It appears you had hpHosts installed on the system: (listed in your Programs and Features)

hpHosts (HKLM\...\hpHosts_is1) (Version: 21-03-2014 - I.T. Mate)

Uninstall and re-install:

when I tried to rename the files and restart I got three loud music notes with a dramatic you-screwed-up tone to it.

What files to you try to rename???

Regarding my Host file-

In the past, I renamed the Host files because it was interfering  with a chat window assistance page I needed. I restored the names and all was well. When I did the accidental system restore, I brought back the old inaccurate file names and can't remember the original file names.

I reconfigured the dns to disabled as instructed on the Hosts website. I downloaded the zip file for Hosts. What I need to know is how to uninstall what I have now that is located at Computer-Windows ©-Windows-System 32-Drivers-etc before I replace it in the same location.
