  5. Hiya Nick, Good to hear we have finally got to grips with our nemisis, I suppose we can now clean up.. We have created several restore points along the way so we need to also remove them.. The proxy setting was the problem, it would seem that gotomeeting Task settings were the issue causing the problem. The FRST fix addressed the problem and the root cause, finally we have a good result. Obviously it was a long haul, but we got there in the end. Thank you for the donation, very much appreciated... But I don't know which account I tried directly with the software, but it doesn't display the account but only my PC and is it possible to deactivate the License Key option and avoid automatic renewal if the account is not remembered or if the account has never existed?   9. Yes, that's something that Apple does where they have an extensive review process for hosting apps on their app store. I suspect that the criteria for getting an extension hosted on Microsoft's web store is much less rigorous, otherwise it likely wouldn't happen so often that bad extensions make it onto their site.

  11. Hello Thomas87, Malwarebytes detected the issue you had as a PUM - which means, Potential Unwanted Modification In your case, it looks like Chrome Updates were disabled. Some users do disable this event themselves via regedit, as described here: http://www.chromefans.org/chrome-tutorial/how-to-disable-google-chrome-automatic-updates.htm This is mostly done, because newer versions of Chrome may cause problems for them. If you had done this yourself you would obviously have been aware and would need to create an exclusion in Malwarebytes settings

  14. Now first of all when a product extension is allowed, should there not be a rule to intimate the companies before granting final permissions to host it's product in the web store? Unless the companies too acknowledge the products, than only final clearance be made and why did MS bungle here, w/o verifying with the company on the product? It sucks.

  17. Second it. A real shocker to me to find that MS store harbors fake extensions and I installed Adguard VPN (w/o second thoughts believing it ti be a Adguard product) and well have to be careful from now on.

Sadly, using reputable companies and products to push PUPs and malware is a common practice and has been for many years (remember all the rogue/fake AVs years ago that pretended to be legitimate Microsoft, Trend Micro, Symantec/Norton products among others?). For a long time now, fake Flash player, QuckTime, Java and other browser plugins/extensions have been found in the wild bundled with PUPs, and I've seen tons of them in the Chrome web store, Mozilla add-ons site and other legitimate sources for extensions and add-ons for browsers, so Microsoft is going to have to

  22. Thanks for all your help. It's 2am and I got to get some sleep. I was trying to load MB AV from the Miami server, if that helps. It wasn't just the license. I get MBSetup.exe and ran it. I got the Installing box, it paused, and then a message; An error occurred while downloading. Please check your internet connection etc...

  24. I have not experienced that, but if the VPN DNS server is unable to locate one of our main license or update servers I'm sure that can or would happen. I will pass the information along to our QA Team for further research. Thanks
  25. Let me "play" with the first system. If your using TLS, I'll make sure it's loaded, and test again. That system should be upgraded to Win10 soon. Did you know you can't load MB AV with Privacy ON?
